As I go through some of my old photos, and upload them to RedBubble, I have been finding some that I just love, and doing a bit of research on their history.

The Armour-Swift-Burlington Bridge, also known as the North Kansas City Bridge and the LRC bridge is a rail crossing, truss bridge built originally to handle car traffic over the Missouri River in Kansas City.

While researching I found a photo of the way the area looked when the traffic was going over the top of the bridge, and it was just amazing to see the difference - how the traffic used to flow through that area.

This was always one of my favorite shots... Usually there are just regular boats at Kaw Point in Kansas City - and I have a few shots of just the skyline from there with a reflection on the river, but it was never something to get excited about.

On this particular day in 2012, I happened to be in the West Bottoms and decided to try again at Kaw Point. The thing about landscape photography - sometimes you can get an entirely different shot with the lighting of the day, or the weather.

There were a couple of travelers on the river that day. I believe they said they took this trip once a year "Lewis and Clark style."

I know there are differing opinions on HDR photography, and sometimes I know I overdo it with a surreal artistic look, or oversaturation - because I want the dreamy feel to my work. The not quite real - this is a fantasy feel.

I am excited that I can do this as a puzzle now - and have found a service where I can easily offer prints, and even on different products. (And yes, this is likely a puzzle I will be ordering for myself ;) )

I hope you enjoy this photograph as much as I enjoyed the process of creating it.

I'm working on getting some photos processed that I took at the auction this weekend. I have this one of Andy... He looks like he's advertising a hair product.

I have one more of the Train park from the Overland Park Arboretum. I leaned to use Photoshop's HDR program, so I decided to test it and see what I thought.

I tend to try and keep a light touch with my HDR, unless I want it to be a truly surreal artistic look. I had some trouble with this one, as the scene itself was surreal, so I could have gone either way.

I didn't naturally use any tilt shift photoshop methods as it was already a miniature, it just meant getting myself into awkward positions to take the photos...

A few weeks ago I went to Death Valley to get a feel for what the photographic opportunities were. I only went to a few of the attraction points, as it's a pretty decent sized park. I'm going to have to make quite a few trips for this....

This is one of the shots that I captured. When I first imported it into my computer, I didn't think I could salvage it, but didn't throw it on the rejected pile just yet either.

I've been taking quite a few freebie online processing courses, and really looking into improving my Lightroom workflow, and came across one where he worked with a sunset. I took just a couple of his tips and tricks, as well as some of the others (reduced highlights - grad filter to adjust exposure - upped some contrast, clarity, and vibrance) - I have this as a finished result.

I'm not entirely pleased - as I could have done some things differently to get a better shot out of camera - mostly underexposed it, but also I would have liked to get rid of some of the sunspots and weird reflections that I cropped out ;)

This also isn't my usual style, as I tend to like color. Flowers, grass, bright buildings... And yet... I find myself attracted to this shot... I'm not sure why.

I've been going through my photos from our trip to Alaska in 2015. Slowly processing, while rediscovering my strengths and what I should work on.

The photos below are a few of my favorites, but I have quite a few that brought back memories. It's also encouraged me to look into more tutorials on better photography, and better processing techniques.

I processed a few of my sunrise in Orlando, but now I'm waiting to learn more, and hopefully I can get the results I want in processing.

I'm currently out of town, and maybe I'll find some new things to photograph, but in the meantime, I'm sharing older photos I've taken as I am still working my way through and reducing the number of rejected photos I have in my "files." (Hard drive 😉)

I'll share a few more of these on my Instagram account () tomorrow, but I wanted to start with this one. One of my favorite spots in Kansas City is Liberty Memorial and Union Station. I absolutely love that whole area, including Penn Valley Park, and the Fireman's Memorial Fountain.

I have only visited inside the WWI museum one time. This is one of the many photos I took that day. While I tend to be almost emotionally detached from many things, reading the words from soldiers during those times, seeing the posters, viewing the photos, and news during that period of history was a heart wrenching experience.

There is a fee to go inside, but it is a part of history that I think needs to be viewed through the eyes of those who experienced it firsthand, and not just from a history book, and classroom. I highly recommend it.
