Easing back into this space by sharing some of this at-home session for a beautiful family I’ve been honored to photograph before. There’s something special about being welcomed back into a family’s home, witnessing and documenting changes in rhythm as they grow and evolve. It feels fitting to share these, as I find my way back here as I’m reminded (again) of how meaningful this work can be. Look for more of this lovely family soon, as had the pleasure of documenting Baby T’s baptism.

I’m delighted to have been selected in the category of Best Professional Services by the judges in Connect To Magazine‘s inaugural Connect to the Best Awards.
Thanks to all who nominated me and to the judges—it’s very gratifying to be recognized by this community that I love so much.
Congratulations to the other winners, runners up and local businesses that make Northern Westchester such a vibrant place to live and work.

I have one photo of myself from each of my two pregnancies.
Both were afterthought snapshots, with no thought given to either, and it shows. I didn’t feel great during either pregnancy, but I still wish I had stopped to document and bask in it a little bit. I would have done it like this: at home, in my comfort zone. What about you? Do you prefer the drama and simplicity of studio maternity photos, or the warmth and organic nature of at-home sessions?

A question I get asked often as an in-home lifestyle/documentary family photographer is: Why? Why would anyone want to be photographed just hanging around their home, doing, you know, nothing? To that I say: nothing is the stuff that family life is made of, it’s actually everything. The weekend mornings spent in pajamas, coloring. The backyard baseball lessons. The lawn mowing, bike riding, story reading. The cookie baking. The lego-building. The walks around the block, the dog snuggles, the swinging, the nursing. All of it. My question is: why wouldn’t you?

Well, here we are again! No matter how hard I try (and trust me, I do try) I can't make summer not end. So while I can't help with most of the back to school chores, I can help with school photos! These quick, fun sessions have become a perennial favorite and book up quickly every year, so whether you didn't get that perfect shot on the first morning, if you never like the pics that come home from school or maybe you're super organized and planning holiday cards/gifts already (I'll need to talk to you about how you manage that, please) these sessions fit the bill. *All ages welcome -- including senior portraits!
*I don't put a minimum age limit on these sessions, but for safety reasons, kids must be able to sit on their own on a (low) stool.
September 14 & 15 in Katonah. Click for the details and easy online booking: https://book.usesession.com/s/oNQKIuHEa

I'm delighted and flattered to announce that I've been nominated in the category of best photographer in Connect To Magazine's first "best of" issue.
*
Connect To Magazine is handling their "best of" issue differently than others of this type, in that it's not a "pay to play" situation (ever notice how much crossover there are between advertisers and winners in these things?). It's also not a contest to see who can have the most people sign in with different email addresses and check a box to vote for them. Their system involves voters (that's you!) writing something about their experience with the service provider (that's me!) and actual judges will be reading the votes.
*
So, if you'd like to vote for me (thank you!) just click here https://connecttomag.com/best/ and write whatever you'd like. The deadline is September 30. With gratitude and love, Amy.

My photographic influences were always steeped in documentary work. As a visual learner, I think I wanted to be able to tell stories in the way that I experienced them. Even photographing my own children felt most natural from a narrative perspective. Over the years I’ve been photographing professionally, though, I’ve mostly produced client work that is decidedly more lifestyle. For a while now, I’ve been feeling a creative need to reconnect with what drew me to photography so many years ago, and I’ve undertaken some long-form documentary projects. I have also been seeking out opportunities to study with working documentary photographers who mentor and teach on the subject, and have recently returned from a week at studying with . More on that experience as I process it. For now, though, I’m feeling excited to incorporate this point of view into my daily and professional practice and see where it leads. Stay tuned.
