Stainless Steel Streak

Commuter Choice

NJ Transit (NJT) ALP-45DP no. 4517 is seen hauling Morristown Line train 807 into Maplewood Station. The unit is sporting an advertising wrap for Choose New Jersey, which was sponsored for the FIFA World Cup over the summer. October 6, 2026.

Shuttle on Sixth

New York City Transit Authority (NYCTA) R211A car 3924 is the lead unit on a shuttle train seen arriving at Broadway-Lafayette Street Station on the IND 6th Avenue Line. On this particular weekend, service at Grand Street Station was operated as a shuttle to and from W 4th Street due to trackwork on the line.

Grand Street Shuttle service (marked with a gray S bullet) operated this route between W 4th Street Station and Grand Street Station from December 2001 to February 2004, during the Manhattan Bridge Reconstruction project. Other shuttles also operated along the 6th Avenue Line at various points throughout the reconstruction project, including:

Between Broadway-Lafayette Street Station and Grand Street Station (using the gray S bullet);
Between 57th Street-6th Avenue Station and Grand Street (using the orange S bullet);
Between Broadway-Lafayette Street Station and 21st Street-Queensbridge Station (using the orange S bullet).

The Towers at WALK

Taking a look back to 2021 on one of the last times I visited Norwalk, CT and the 1896-built WALK Bridge on the former New Haven Railroad. The 130-year-old four-track swing bridge is in the process of being replaced with a pair of two-track vertical lift bridges. Shortly after this visit, the IMAX theater at the Maritime Aquarium, which was adjacent to the bridge structure and visible in the foreground here, was demolished to make room for the construction effort. In September 2026 work began on removing the iconic 234-foot-tall utility towers, which have been prominent features of the Norwalk skyline for generations. Taken January 10, 2021.

Happy Birthday, Erie Lackawanna!

On October 17, 1960, the Erie Railroad and the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad officially merged to form the Erie-Lackawanna (the hyphen was later dropped from the name). Nowadays, many railroads pay tribute to the fallen flag and it's predecessors with heritage units, as well as museums and non-profits with historic equipment restored to EL paint schemes.
