A Year of Birds is complete!! I photographed a total of 206 individual species. I hiked up mountains and through deserts, waited patiently in the freezing cold and extreme heat, trucked through the sand and slid down rocks...all to find these birds. While not every image is an award winner (some birds just don't want to have their photo taken) I'm very happy with the outcome and enjoyed every second of it. Now, to finish the book!!

My new total is 186 species. I only have a couple of weeks left. Will I make it to 200???

No. 162 is a Pileated Woodpecker!!! Not only is this my first time to photograph this bird but the first time for me to ever see one with my own eyes! Very excited about this one!! The Pileated WP is the largest woodpecker in NA (assuming the Ivory-billed is indeed extinct).

No. 161 is a Dunlin in its non-breeding plumage. It is recognizable by its slightly droopy bill.

Four more for the list! I was most excited about the Crested CaraCara, aka Mexica Eagle. He looks like a hawk, behaves like a vulture but is technically a falcon. (and looks like he's wearing a toupee).
