Three years without him today. 🤍
Off to spend the next two days with my mom, but I felt so inclined to share one of my favorite photos with my dad, taken during our father-daughter dance.
Growing up, my dad and I could NEVER agree on music. And I mean never. If I liked it, he didn’t. If he liked it, I didn’t. I guess that’s just what happens when you’re a kid, right? Because now that I’m older, I LOVE his music. His playlist is on repeat every October. (I hate Octobers.)
So when it came time to choose our father-daughter dance song, he challenged me to find one that he would actually like.
I’ll never forget the look on his face when he first heard Alejandro Jaén’s Vals para una novia.
He was completely overcome with emotion. I remember him telling me, “That’s exactly how I feel today.”
And just like that, we had our song.
My dad was my everything. My rock, my steady place, my hero. And getting to share that dance with him will forever be one of my favorite memories from my wedding day.
I didn’t know then just how much those few minutes, or the photos of them, would mean to me one day.
And I think that’s a big part of why I do what I do.
Because when I walk into a wedding day, I don’t see the special dance as just another moment on the timeline. I see a daughter dancing with her dad. A son with his mom. I see a memory being made that they might one day hold onto with everything they have.
I know what it’s like to look back at those photos and wish, more than anything, that you could step into them for just one more dance.
So I photograph those moments with intention, with care, and with so much love. Because I know that someday, those photos might mean more than anyone in that room could ever imagine.
