“We haven’t done a photo session just the two of us since our engagement photos over twelve years ago.”

I was so very excited to photograph Roslyn and Rhett, especially when I heard that they hadn’t done a couples session in a long time.

Even as a photographer, it makes sense to me that we photograph the whole family—all together, individually, and mom and dad at the end. But it’s also terribly fun to leave your babies at home for an evening and spend it with your love (and me, haha).

These photos are for your kids—right now, you’re so much apart of their lives that they can’t even conceive that you have a life outside of it. But one day they’ll grow up and want to remember the people you were back when they were kids. And of course, these photos are for you—a witness of the love that you share and that carries you through your days.

Last year, Kyle and Merissa said “I do” in Cancun.

It was everything that they had hoped for—except for one little thing. The resort required them to use its own photographer—which meant that they came home without the kind of wedding portraits that they always wanted.

This spring, they got a second chance.

No all-day photo timeline. No guests waiting. No pressure to hurry.

They slowed down, laughed together, and made memories that had nothing to do with a wedding day timeline. Instead, it was a simple celebration of their continued commitment to each other.

What I’m actually doing: grinning like a fool over the photos from last Saturday night

After weeks of planning, this session finally happened and all of my vintage-wedding-in-a-barley-field dreams came true!! (Well, except for the lack of a sunset, I’m still salty about that.)

Kora and Azola were so wonderful to drive down from Ankeny for this shoot and were terribly fun to photograph. I can’t wait to dive into this gallery and see what hidden gems I haven’t found yet!!
