Be a rustic cowboy, Southern Belle, gentleman, or saloon-girl (floozie)...we have the right clothes, staff, and backgrounds to ensure you and your group of up to 35 have a great time!

Chapter turn: many of the memories/photos created in the studio over the past many years (since they were 12 years old) have been facilitated by my daughters Malia and Madysen. Madysen fled the nest for greener pastures a couple years ago and now my youngest Malia heads off to boot camp in a few days. Tonight was Malia’s final shift making old time photo memories for Black Hills tourists. I had to talk her into one last photo this evening before we closed. On a positive note, you might see me in the studio even more now that my babies are gone…. 😢 😊

May 2026 means Professor Samuel’s just turned 50 years old! We’ve been a fixture on the historic Keystone Boardwalk since 1976. In that time we’ve met amazing people from nearly every country on the planet and gave them a lasting memory to cherish and reminisce their trip to the Black Hills.
A huge shoutout to Matuska Edgar W (Ed Matuska) who started this company and to Shirley Abelseth who grew the business for many years. Shirley spent years growing the business, sewing costumes, taking photos, and pouring her life into the studio. As for me (Jason Abelseth) I’m starting my 27th season with Professor Samuel’s and plan to be around for many more if God allows. Blessings this summer and hope to see you this birthday season!!
