Professional photographer, but still human. 💛
Something I’ve realized over the years is that I’m actually really bad about getting in front of the camera myself.
You’d think being a photographer would make it easier, but honestly… I’m still a woman who can feel insecure about her body, look at the price of things and question if they’re worth it, and want photos that feel real instead of just pretty.
And I think those things have actually shaped the way I photograph YOU.
1. Body insecurity.
I’m 1.5 years postpartum now, dealing with PCOS/PMOS, and I haven’t been able to lose the pregnancy weight yet. I’m incredibly proud of this body for creating my babies, but I’d be lying if I said I always feel confident in it.
Being in front of the camera myself has made me much more aware of how vulnerable that can feel.
It’s why I pay attention to posing for ALL body types. I slow down. I look at what actually looks good instead of just putting you into a pose because it’s what I always do.
I want to be honest with myself and with my clients and figure out how to create photos where you can look at yourself and think, “I LOVE this.”
2. $$
I went to Walmart today for a few things and somehow spent $80.
The cost of living is absolutely outrageous, and I know what it feels like to spend money on something and really want to feel like you got your money’s worth.
There is SO much that goes into running a photography business, and yes, I need this business to help provide for my family. But I also want photography to feel possible for more people.
So I’m easygoing to work with, I try to make the experience worth every penny, and I offer payment plans for all sessions AND weddings because I know sometimes you want the photos without having to cry at the checkout counter. 😂
3. I want my photos to feel REAL.
Over the years, I’ve fallen so much more in love with candid moments than perfectly posed pictures.
I don’t just want to remember what I looked like.
I want to remember what it felt like.
I want to hear my son giggling again. I want to remember the breeze in my hair and the sun tickling my skin. I want to remember the way my husband looked at me. I want to remember all the little things that I know I’ll forget someday.
And that’s what I want for you, too.
I want you to be able to look at your photos years from now and almost time travel back to that exact season of your life.
So yes, I’m a professional photographer.
But I’m also a mama who gets insecure in front of the camera, gets tired of seeing the total ring up at the checkout at Walmart, and wants photos that actually feel like us.
And honestly? I think that makes me a better photographer for you. 🫶🏼
