Not gonna lie, I almost didn’t get this shot. 🌙

My photographer friends and I were tracking the crescent moon alignment tonight and clouds were creeping in right on the horizon exactly where the moon needed to set. Classic. But I had two solid alignments planned, so I threw caution to the wind and drove out to my exact spot to line the moon up with the top of the Zakim Bridge.
Parking? Nonexistent. I squeezed in on a quiet dead-end street, but a guy came over and told me I had to move 😅 I asked if he had any suggestions, and he actually pointed me to a private spot and gave me the green light for 30 min. Random acts of kindness from strangers >>>
The moon was still high when I got set up, then dropped FAST. As it neared the bridge’s pinnacle, I watched those clouds creep in and thought “yep, there goes the shot”. Got some other great frames in the meantime, but my heart was set on that one alignment.
I kept shooting anyway... and the moon somehow stayed clear the ENTIRE time, only dipping into the clouds after it passed below the pinnacle. 🤯
Some nights the universe just says yes.

What a night…and not in a great way. I had my heart set on catching the fireworks going off behind the Custom House so I made my way to Winthrop. As I approached my spot, the roads were full of people and cars. The fireworks didn’t start until 10:30 and it was only 7:00. I did manage to find a spot to park but turns out there was some land blocking the view. I drove to another spot knowing my alignment wouldn’t be what I wanted but better than nothing. I was surprised to find a spot to park and to see that there was no one around to watch the fireworks like the other location. Looking at the map, I could see where I needed to get to and it didn’t look too far. I grabbed my camera bag with tripod strapped to it, my knitting bag, and folding chair and started walking.

A man was walking by and I asked him what time the fireworks started and he said 9:15. I was surprised as I thought it would have been later.

About a mile away (seeing parking spots the entire way) I found a little side street that went to the water with some stairs that went down to the “beach”. Once I got down there at 8:30 I set up my camera and started taking pictures. I saw the massively bright lights from the airport right below the custom house which was making too much of a glare. It also started to rain at that point when at 9:00 some pretty big fireworks started going off back where I went at first. I figured they were just random people lighting them off but I took some pictures anyway just to practice a bit.

I decided to find another spot so I went back up to the road and walked back toward the direction of my car. The rain started coming down a bit harder but I also saw many people walking around now making their way out to see the fireworks. A few minutes later it was torrential rain. I got under a tree to at least try to stay dry. I even set up my chair which has a sun shade attached to it to shield myself. It was no help. I was soaked to the bone. After 10 minutes or so the rain let up a touch so I started walking again.

This was my stop in Kennebunk where I saw the lights for the first time last night. I stopped a couple of places in MA but it was still cloudy there. This was a great spot and I took the opportunity to get in one.

Just a quick pull off on the way to Harrison, thirty minutes before my schoolhouse shot down the road. The aurora glowing above a field full of fireflies, both putting on a show at the same time.
I wanted to stay longer to capture more fireflies but I didn’t want to miss the aurora over the school house
