7/4/26 We celebrate the 250th anniversary of the US in towns all over our country this weekend, and fireworks are symbolic of celebration, of joy, of community. Last night I stood with hundreds along the edge of a small lake in Michigan and listened to families and friends sharing laughter and conversations. Fireworks are lights in the darkness – representing the triumph of good. It’s a representation and manifestation of Divine energy — it explodes in the darkness and blossoms in color and beauty... but is fleeting, like life itself. But these moments of brilliance and beauty remind me that I am privileged to enjoy them, and I am grateful for that freedom.
The American experiment is about this amazing collective — of humans from all races, colors, creeds, and cultures — who came to this place to seek refuge from tyranny, to start a new life in a new place, to practice their faith freely, to own land, to create community. My great grandparents came from Ireland and Italy and ended up in a small mill town in upstate NY. They worked hard and raised families and ... years later, I am here. Anyway, I was just thinking about that tonight as I stood there enjoying the show. Happy 250th America. May we not fail to study and learn from the past, and let us take that knowledge as we strive forward and upward with HOPE for the future. Excelsior!
