Sweet Tennessee, land for my bones and history
Sweet Tennessee, find me in your hills and in your streams
Sweet Tennessee, color of my soul in memory
Sweet Tennessee, “Sweet Home Alabama, “ I’ll never sing
Take me where the hills are callin’, the fields are made of green
‘Cause I don’t need some people city, Lord
Give me Tennessee
Sweet Tennessee, home of my love and family
Sweet Tennessee, God has shed His grace on, all over thee
Take me where the hills are callin’, the fields are made of green
‘Cause I don’t need some big ol’ city, Lord
Give me Tennessee.

Forever the nostalgic slt that I am, I mapped out my childhood neighborhood, well, one of them. Being that my Dad lived in Chattanooga + my mom in Huntsville, I had two childhoods. I used to feel it was a handicap to have two separate lives/childhoods, but my God, I was loved.
This map is from my Huntsville childhood, circa 1986-1995

My first kiss.
My first cigarette. (Menthol Virginia Slims. My best friend’s mom’s stash in which Jan Claire taught me how to light it by leaning over the glowing red eye of the stove)
My first relationships, friendship+ otherwise.
My first ball team.
My first cheer.
My first jump off the high dive.
My first drink.
My first smoke.
The first time I snuck out of the house…
I’m writing it all down. For me, and for them, (the ones who will come after me). I spend a lot of my time researching my ancestors, looking for their stories. I’d kill to find a written account in their OWN words, but instead I am gleaning it from deeds, maps, widow pensions, history books, newspaper clippings, + courthouse records.
I plan on remedying that for those who will come looking for me after I am gone. They will know me by MY stories, MY words, MY thoughts. The good. The bad. The weird. All of it.
I am a storyteller.

Just a few of the photos I took for the Cansler YMCA for FREE Mother’s Day photoshoot! Each family got 7 mins in front of my camera, as well as at least 3-4 edited, high resolution images to print + share.
Look at these cute faces!!
I had an absolute blast + look forward to more collabs in the future! Cansler Y

It is in the exploratory stage that I find myself fumbling through at the age of 48. Trying to remember that I am honestly just a baby in the realm of self discovery-I don’t accept the societal terms of having it all figured out just because I’m an “adult”. So yea, exciting at times + debilitating at others. Most often uttered from my lips, “What the hell are you even doing, Aimee?!
“Just trying to follow my heart,” I reply. Which, let me tell ya, in a world that believes success is achieved by how much money you make, or how many material possessions you have, following your heart sounds lazy to many.
And then I go on assignment for a magazine article and meet an amazing human being, successful artist, educator, architect and encourager who softly delivers such wisdom as this:
“You don’t have to have a justification and you don’t have to have an answer, because what you are doing is exploring + having fun doing it.You’re excavating as an archaeologist does. They peel away layers with these little, tiny brushes. What I’m saying is that what you’re doing and you’re trying to find, is what the essence is. So it’s a search. And as a great architect once said, that creation is a patient search.”
Conversation between Mr. Lou Gauci and myself- which hopefully gives you an idea of what kind of person he is. The following photos are from his in home office that he so generously let me document.
If you’d like to read more about him, has written a beautiful piece about him in that just got released this week.
Tune in, loves. Tune innnnn.
