“I LOVE your work!” 🤍📸
I hear this ALL the time... until I send my pricing.
And I’ll admit, sometimes that hurts.
So let’s talk about the part of photography you DON’T see.
📸 Camera body: $3,000
⚾ Sports lens: $3,500
📸 Prime lens: $2,000
That’s $8,500 in just THREE pieces of equipment. 😳 And that doesn’t include everything else in my camera bag!
Then there’s monthly editing software, my CRM, website, gallery hosting, insurance, storage and all the other costs of running a business.
And the biggest one? TIME.
That 30 minute session you book is HOURS of work for me. Talking, planning, traveling, shooting, culling hundreds of images and EDITING. When I break it all down, some sessions leave me making around $10 an hour.
My prices have gradually increased over the years, but they’re still on the lower end of where they realistically should be.
I’ve also done several free sessions to build my portfolio. Those clients loved their photos, but not one has ever come back to book once pricing was involved.
And that taught me something...
**Loving someone’s work and VALUING their work are two different things.**
I completely understand that professional photography isn’t in everyone’s budget. There’s a photographer for every budget, and that’s okay!
But photography is also one of those things where you often get what you pay for.
I don’t want you to choose me because I’m the cheapest. I want you to choose me because you LOVE my work and trust me to create something worth investing in.
Because the biggest compliment you can give me isn’t “I love your work.”
**It’s “I want YOU to take my photos.”** 📸
And to every person who has booked me, referred me or continues to come back... THANK YOU. You’re supporting something I love and helping this mama pay for three boys and all those extracurriculars.
