IT’S TIME 🕰️

Last year was my first adventure up for this event & my return was even better than the first trip! This event has become a favorite of mine, running back and forth through the village to capture the perfect moment in the heat of a battle, the quiet scene of reenactors walking through the village or just a still shot of one of the historic buildings. I am already looking forward to setting up camp again next year & see where this little adventure leads me next!

POST 1 of 1: The Final Battle

2026 is the year of new events for me here at Rebels & Redcoats! It has shaped up to be my busiest year. Orders are on their way out and new roll in and I can’t thank everyone enough for the support!

Bradenburg Civil War Days highlighted another portion of John Hunt Morgan’s raids through Southern Ohio, Indiana and portions of Kentucky and Tennessee. I missed out on the town raid portion from Saturday, but made it for the final battle come Sunday afternoon.

While this event was about snapping those moments, I must take a moment to pause and remember someone in the reenactment community that was lost over the weekend at the event. He was known by many as “Mongo” and while I only had a few interactions with him, I could feel how much he was loved, cared for, and appreciated by his comrades, friends, and fellow reenactors. He will be greatly missed and I send my deepest condolences and prayers to his family, friends, and all those who knew him. Rest easy, “Mongo”.

**With that said, half of any earnings on orders from this specific event will go to the GoFundMe that has been set up to help with the cost of funeral expenses.** (if you’d like to donate to it directly, I can share the link in the comments of this post)

THE BATTLEFIELD

After a strong round of storms, my posting was delayed briefly from posting the FINAL part of Dogwood Pass’ absolutely incredible Civil War event, Morgan’s Raid. I quite honestly cannot say enough good things about this event, the people involved, & how much I truly enjoyed being there as a reenactor & a photographer. If you haven’t been out to the reproduction Wild West town in Beaver, Ohio, I HIGHLY recommend this place! You will LOVE it!

Saturday brought about a new twist to bring to my page & an era that I may have to add as a feature a few times a year.

I present…Rebels & Redcoats and… the Outlaws? Billie Creek Village hosted the Lost River Renegades over the weekend & allowed the public to view a Wild West style shoot out, quick draws between the Outlaws, stick pony races, & touring the village, among several other things. As a first time event for the page, I don’t think my “daily life” shots fell short of capturing the event.

Quite possibly my favorite part of the weekend, watching Morgan’s Raiders invade the town & the townsfolk putting on one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Editing is still in full swing for the field battle from Sunday, but I figured I would pause & at least have two posts out today with pictures from the fighting inside the town!

History of the raids:
Morgan’s Raids were a series of cavalry operations conducted in 1863 through Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, & Tennessee. Ordered by Confederate General Braxton Bragg, John Hunt Morgan was sent to disrupt the Federal supply lines. Instead of following orders, Morgan & his some 2,000 men brought the war to the Midwest.

Along the way, they’d travel through Mauckport, Indiana, fight the Indiana militia at the ONLY documented battle in Indiana at Corydon, burn bridges, cut up railroad lines, capture supplies, & create panic throughout Kentucky, & eventually make his way back through to cross the Ohio River at Buffington Island, where he was intercepted by Union Forces.

Morgan initially escaped, but was finally captured on July 26, 1863.

Morgan’s Raids on the midwestern states solidified his place in history, his men earning a reputation for being the most daring cavalrymen of the war, even if it did end in disaster for the Southern Forces.

Another brand NEW event for the page & quite possibly my favorite of the year so far! If you haven’t made it out to Dogwood Pass yet, I HIGHLY recommend it!

This weekend, Dogwood Pass brought Morgan’s Raid to life, recreating the infamous 1863 Confederate raids through Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio & Indiana with approximately 2,400 cavalrymen. Ultimately, his raids would end in failure, with the majority of his men being captured at the Battle of Buffington Island, & Morgan himself being captured on July 26, in West Point, Ohio & imprisoned at the Ohio Penitentiary where he escaped.
