I’m sure choosing a photographer can feel overwhelming since there are so many to choose from and so much to consider!
Here are some of my personal tips on questions to ask when choosing your photographer:
1) Does your photographer have associates? If so, will it be the business owner or an associate? If it will be an associate: Will you be told in advance who it will be. Ask how experienced they are and their personal and artistic style.
2) Can the photographer help review your timeline? You want your photographer to give input to ensure the timeline goes smoothly AND you have enough time to get optimal photos, especially of the moments of the day that matter most to you.
3) Does the photographer have proper insurance for your venue? This will protect you, the venue and the photographer. Many destination photographers who are hired directly by the client might not know the requirements of the venue. Make sure to clear this up. Having applicable insurance shows professionalism and preparedness.
4) Is the photographer a good and flexible team player? A great photographer should be able to collaborate smoothly with the other vendors especially the wedding planner and videographer (if there is on). They should be able to stay calm under pressure and be able to adapt to timeline shifts or weather changes. They should be able to respect the flow of the ceremony and reception.
5) How much experience does the photographer have? An experienced photographer will anticipate key moments before they happen, handle low-light situations confidently, manage large groups during groups photos, stay calm and composed during unexpected chains.
6) Is the photographer’s style and personality the right fit? Styles can vary and here are some examples: Light and airy or dark and moody, Editorial or Documentary/candid. Personality matters A LOT. Do they make you feel comfortable in front of the camera. Do they match your energy and communication style?
Final thoughts: It’s just about liking their photos, it’s about understanding how they work behind the scenes. By asking these questions, you will get a clear picture of if they’re a fit. HAPPY PLANNING

I had so much fun capturing this extended family while they were vacationing on Maui together. To describe my style for family portraits, I’d say that I love to capture a mix of relaxed posed family photos, emotive candids, and scenic photos to give a sense of place. ✨📸🌴

I was honored to photograph the Gala. This special school is very near and dear to my heart ❤️ I attended Haleakalā Waldorf as a child and now my youngest son is about to finish 1st grade there. It has been pure magic for him and I feel so grateful for this very wonderful community! ✨📸
