Hutchinson Huskies and Maple Plain Diamond Devils, thanks for your hospitality and for putting on a good show in your 5-4 game Saturday in Maple Plain. It was a good game for action photography. Here are some favorites. The comments have a link to more pics.

Don Timpe Field in Maple Plain was my 43rd stop on my ongoing tour of Minnesota's amateur baseball fields.

Saturday's springtime skies didn't disappoint for photography, and neither did the game. It was an entertaining 5-4 game between the Maple Plain Diamond Devils and Hutchinson Huskies, with the home team prevailing. (The comments have a link to more photos, including game photos.)

I couldn't find a lot of information on Don Timpe, for whom the city-owned field was named in 1998. The internet says he died in 1997. Google AI says he was a longtime Maple Plain resident but did not provide a source for the information. (Someone from the team ... feel free to provide details in the comments.)

Don Timpe Field was a welcoming, pleasant environment for some "town ball" in the farthest western reaches of Hennepin County. I enjoyed chatting with fans and finding fun places to photograph, including between fence gaps in the outfield.

More fields and photos to come!

On Memorial Day, I traveled to The Swamp in Quamba, home of Quamba Cubs Baseball. The field was the 42nd stop on my ongoing tour of Minnesota's amateur baseball fields.

Quamba made amateur-baseball headlines last season with its first-ever trip to the state tournament, so the team and its field were high on my list for a visit this season. I'm glad I made the 1 hour, 20 minute trip north of St. Paul.

The Swamp was surprisingly hard to find in a town of 107, perhaps because Google AI gave conflicting instructions. Imagine that. Anyway, I found the field eventually but got there a bit later than anticipated, so I didn't ask why it's named The Swamp. It is adjacent to some marshy areas, so that's likely the reason.

While many of Minnesota's ball fields raise money to install fancy scoreboards, even with video replays, Quamba keeps things low-tech in a way that kept getting my photographer's attention. I took more photos of the scoreboard than I needed to, but it was fun to watch the trio of scoreboard operators change the numbers.

The Swamp provides classic "town ball," complete with pop being sold for one dollar. It was somehow fitting the seven-inning exhibition game against the Cambridge Bandits ended in a tie.

Here are some photos from my warm, sunny visit to The Swamp. The comments have a link to more photos, including game action. More fields and photos to come.

On Sunday, I visited Jack Ruhr Field in Miesville, home of the Miesville Mudhens. It was the 41st field on my ongoing tour of Minnesota's amateur baseball fields.

Jack Ruhr Field is named after a former president of the Mudhens' organization who played key roles in updating and maintaining the field.

Because the Mudhens have won the Class B state title the past two years, I was expecting a good stadium and solid fan support, and was not disappointed. It's a fun place to watch baseball, with plenty of sun and plenty of shade depending on the weather. Sunday was warm and sunny, so the covered bleachers were crowded.

The Mudhens fell to the Class A St Paul Hops, whose home field is a half-mile from my St. Paul home. It's a team I've photographed several times, so it was fun to catch them on the road.

Here are some photos from the visit. The comments have a link to more photos include game-action photos. And more fields to come.

Chisago Lakes Bulldogs and Andover Aces, thanks for your hospitality Friday night in less-than-ideal rainy and muddy conditions. Here are some photos from the four innings you were able to get in. This was Minnesota amateur park no. 40 for me. The comments have a link to more photos.

I had a great time photographing the Le Sueur-Henderson-Cleveland golf teams on a breezy but beautiful Tuesday afternoon at Le Sueur Country Club. I practically grew up on the course, so it was a treat to be back. What a beautiful setting for these talented golfers.

The comments have a link to more photos, including posed group and individual shots.

Good luck as you wrap up the season!
