Photo on the left was taken the day I showed up in court to testify in the case against Brolin McConnell (photo on the right) who held me hostage on July 27, 2016.

Talking story has always been how Lahaina passes things down, one generation telling the next. This project doesn’t replace that. It just means you don’t have to rely on secondhand versions.

Imagine your great-great-grandkids actually watching video of you, or your grandparents, talking story. Not just hearing about it secondhand. Seeing the face, hearing the voice, the real thing.

We teamed up with Kaibigan ng Lahaina on the Family Album Project: a free program that records Lahaina families’ stories on video and archives old photos and documents, all in one place, instead of scattered across memory.

In this podcast, I speak with Eric from Kaibigan about how it works.

This isn’t about going public. It’s yours to keep. Your family decides what, if anything, gets shared. Everything else stays private, just for you.

If your family has roots here in Lahaina, this one’s for you especially. Link in bio to apply, or reach out to Kaibigan ng Lahaina directly. Watch till the end for more information 🤙🏽

Still feels a little uncomfortable sharing this.

I’ve never been good at accepting recognition because I know none of what I do happens on my own. This award may have my name on it, but it belongs to every person who has stood beside me, taught me, challenged me, and reminded me why showing up for our community matters.

After going back and forth, I decided to post this because I want everyone who has been part of my journey to know how grateful I am. Whether we’ve worked together, volunteered together, shared hard days, celebrated good ones, or you’ve simply supported me from afar, you’ve helped shape who I am.

Mahalo to my family, my friends, my mentors, and this Lahaina community that raised me. Thank you for trusting me, believing in me, and allowing me to be a small part of something so much bigger than myself.

The work continues, and I’m honored to keep showing up alongside all of you.

Love you all 🙏🏽

This July, Lāhainā is coming home.

From July 17–19, the Lahaina Homecoming will bring our community back together through food, music, storytelling, culture, and connection.

For many families, this will be one of the first times stepping back into Lāhainā together since the fires.

Thanks to the support of Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines, up to 80 displaced residents will be flown home to attend the event.

If you or your ʻohana were displaced from Lāhainā, we invite you to submit a short video sharing your story and what coming home would mean to you.

Visit:
lahainahomecoming.com

Please help us spread the word so our community can come home together.

Stories of Lāhainā.

A project I’ve been working on focused on keiki sitting down with kūpuna to talk story.

If you know a generational Lāhainā family, or have a story to share, you can submit through the website.

Please visit storiesoflahaina.com for more information or click the link in my bio 🤙🏽

Stay safe everyone 🤙🏽

Been hearing a lot of questions about mold lately, especially with another storm coming.

So I got in touch with Dr. Gina Solomon. She’s an environmental health physician and has studied mold after disasters like Katrina.

Not trying to scare anyone, just wanted to get real info out there.

If you can, it’s always best to go through a remediation specialist.

If not, call 211. They’ll connect you with support across the islands.

Stay safe everyone 🤙🏽
