Tomorrow is the day!
If youā€™ve been looking for a sign to support local theatre, this is it. Join us for Dare to Dream presented by Lanti Performing Arts tomorrow at 2:00 PM at Sun Valley High School.

This isnā€™t just another showā€¦ itā€™s a celebration of what happens when a community believes in its kids. From the first rehearsal to the final bow, this production has been directed and choreographed entirely by high school seniors, who have poured their hearts into helping the next generation shine. Watching young leaders inspire younger performers is pure Disney magic.

Youā€™ll hear songs that remind us to Go the Distance and to let your dreams become part of A Whole New World. Every number is a reminder that believing in one another can create something truly special.

Community theatre has a beautiful way of reminding us that no one succeeds alone. It takes families, volunteers, mentors, performers, and audiences all coming together to make the magic happen and thatā€™s exactly what youā€™ll see on stage tomorrow.

Bring the whole family! Your kids will be singing along, smiling from ear to ear, and maybe even dreaming about being on that stage one day.

And... full disclosure... yours truly may have had a little hand in the dĆ©cor, so if you happen to notice the little details around the theatre, Iā€™ll be smiling. But really... come for these incredible kids. Theyā€™re the reason this show is so special.

Teen headshots are always fun, theyā€™re out here serving magazine cover energy.

Honestly though, theatre kids are my favorite because they fully commit. One second theyā€™re awkwardly fixing their hoodie and the next theyā€™re giving me dramatic looks, Broadway smiles, and emotional depth like weā€™re filming an Oscar campaign.

And can we talk about how theatre geeks are the coolest people to hang out with? Theyā€™re funny, confident, wildly creative, and honestly just good humans.

The best part of photographing teens is getting to hang out with both the teens and their parents for a little while. Parents become hype squads, everyone roasts each other the entire session, and we end up having a genuinely fun afternoon.

Also, Monroe is cool now, if you havenā€™t gone down there in a whileā€¦ or ever, you should support small businesses and give it a walk around!

When a family steps in front of my lens after experiencing a profound loss, the session can hold grief, but it can also hold tenderness, connection, and so much love.

Family photos arenā€™t about perfection, but about presence. Preserving the way hands are held and the smiles that return through heartbreak.

Sometimes showing up for photos is an act of healing.

Thereā€™s something really special about walking through Uptown Charlotte with a camera in hand and a group of people who all see the world a little differently through their lens.

Yesterday I went on a photo walk with which brought together photographers at every stage: from people just picking up a camera this year to seasoned photogs who have built incredible careers doing what they love. Some shoot with a ā€œbig cameraā€, some with film, and some with their cell phone, but itā€™s all for a passion. We all showed up to create, connect, learn, and inspire each other.

I love how photography has this way of turning strangers into community. One minute youā€™re talking camera settings, the next youā€™re swapping life stories on a street corner while chasing the perfect light. Charlotte showed off and my camera roll is full in the best way.

Truth timeā€¦ when I first started photography, I thought I needed all the props, perfect outfits, dreamy golden light, and perfectly posed moments to be a ā€œrealā€ photographer. And while those images were beautiful, they never truly felt like me.

The photos that always meant the most were the ones of my own kids: sticky popsicle hands, messy hair, dirt-covered knees, big laughs, quiet moments. Just being themselves.

Thatā€™s when I realized I didnā€™t want to create perfectly curated memories. I wanted to create honest ones.
The kind of photos that feel like your family. Your connection. Your ordinary magic.

Now when families invite me into their homes, I leave feeling so fulfilled because I get to witness the real stuff: the love, the chaos, the comfort, the moments youā€™ll actually want to remember years from now.

Thatā€™s the magic Iā€™ve been chasing all along and Iā€™m so grateful to be a part of.
