The Sagrada Família is unlike any place I’ve ever photographed.

Pictures don’t really prepare you for what it feels like to stand beneath it. Every tower, every window, every angle seems to pull your eyes upward. It’s one of those rare places where architecture doesn’t just impress you, it makes you stop and wonder.

Antoni Gaudí spent more than 40 years of his life designing this masterpiece, blending nature, mathematics, faith, and imagination into something completely unique. More than 140 years after construction began, it’s still being built.

As a photographer, I found myself constantly looking for new perspectives. The towering spires, the incredible stained glass, the play of light, even the smallest details seemed to tell part of the story.

Out of all the churches I’ve visited, this one left the biggest impression on me.

250 Years Celebrating America and I had to get some fireworks photos! I Went to Downtown Lakeland for the Red White and Kaboom last night, and I was not disappointed. I got there early so I could scope out a cool spot to set up the try-pod. The parking garage was the perfect location. My only regret is I did not have a slightly wider angle. 17mm was not wide enough to take in all of the beauty I saw last night.

I had a rain coat on because it looked as if the sky was going to open up on Downtown Lakeland for a bit, and my weather app kept changing it's mind. Rain, no rain, rain. It seemed to work out, and the clouds stayed around long enough to create an beautiful sunset over the lake. After the natural fireworks were over the man made ones took to the sky, and it was a blast! Pun totally intended.

The Lake Mirror sky was lit up with beautiful colors of red, blue, green, gold and about everything in between. It was so good I could hear the cheers from the crowd below from my perch 4 floors up in the parking garage.

Thank you City of Lakeland, FL for putting on a great show, and helping us celebrate an amazing place to live. Let Freedom RING! Happy Birthday America. Be Blessed, and stay safe everyone.

Park Güell Hypostyle Room

Gaudí built 86 columns here and covered every one of them in broken tile mosaic trencadís, the Catalans call it, beauty made from fragments. I wanted to show where they go.

I overexposed the far end of the Hypostyle Room in Park Güell until the columns simply dissolved into light, walking into it, disappearing into it, becoming it. Black and white stripped away the color and left only the geometry, the texture, and the glow.

There were no puddles. So I made one. I poured water from my bottle onto the Barcelona cobblestones and watched the Sagrada Família appear twicee, once rising through the tree canopy at the end of the street, and once again in the reflection at my feet. Gaudí's masterpiece has been under construction for over 140 years and it still stops you cold. I just got down low and let the street do the rest. it is the tallest church in the world, and I have to say that it is absolutely spectacular.

If you happen to pick up a copy of the LKLD magazine this month you will see one of my photographs on the cover. This is one of the photos I took at the Youth Rodeo last month. I converted it to a dusty black and white and placed it in the competition. It actually won the cover for the month of June. If you get a chance check it out! And check out the Youth Rodeo in Polk county. They are giving kids a chance to do some amazing things. Haven & LKLD

The Edsel. Ford's most famous misadventure, launched in 1957 with enormous fanfare and gone by 1960, and now one of the most sought after classics in America. This chrome emblem sitting on that golden rusted hood in the warm desert light tells the whole story. Sometimes failure ages into something worth keeping.
