Hawaii on film 2026 🎞️🌺🌊

I got a “wild” hair and decided to take 2 film cameras on mine and my husband’s vacation to The Big Island of Hawaii and Kauai. Film has always really intimidated me and the only real experiences I have had with it were the two photography courses I took in my senior year of high school (and my time learning it / playing around with it was very limited then). As a photographer (both in a professional sense and when I am just doing it for fun), I have always placed so much unnecessary pressure on myself for photos to come out perfect. On a digital camera that is easy to control but on film, it is much harder. Hawaii was the start of me easing up and letting photography be fun, experimental and messy for myself like it was when I first got into photography. I absolutely adore these nostalgic, imperfect and grainy vacation film photos and I truly can’t wait to capture more of my life on film.

These photos were taken on an old RZ-770 35mm film camera my uncle gave me years ago that I only used once before (and never got developed until I took my vacation photos in to be developed) and a Kodak EKTAR HN35 Half Frame Film Camera I bought on impulse before our trip.

What a beautiful proposal! Ryan planned the most thoughtful proposal to Kendall. Not only did he surprise her by popping the question but he also brought her parents out to surprise her after the proposal and he got her a second engagement ring (a engagement ring to be exact). Such a sweet night! Congratulations 🎉🎊🎈🍾

On the first sunrise of pride month, I captured Erin and Sinclaire’s elopement. In August 2024 I captured their proposals to one another. It isn’t lost on me how incredibly special and what an honor it has been to capture these two chapters of their love story. To see how in love these two truly are with one another and the unwavering love and support from their close family members who were there to witness them take their vows was such a beautiful way to ring in pride month.

As a bisexual woman myself in a straight presenting marriage, it is not lost on me how privileged I am to not have to worry about my right (or fighting for my right / fighting to keep my right) to marry my partner. I have never had to worry about strangers giving us weird looks when we hold hands, kiss or snuggle up to each other in public. I have never had to fear being verbally or physically assaulted by people who deemed our loved a threat to the “societal norm”. If something ever were to happen to my partner or I, we never have to be scared of not legally being able to make decisions for each other or be by each other’s side.

This is why LGBTQ+ rights are so important to me not just on a personal level but as a photographer who captures love (whether it’s a surprise proposal, engagement photos, couples photos or wedding / elopement photography). As an inclusive photographer I try my hardest to create a space where all my couples feel comfortable being themselves and being in love out loud and freely. I want all my couples to know as their photographer I am equally excited and equally invested in all my couples and all the love stories I capture. And I promise I will do my damnedest to make sure it’s authentically captured. No one’s love has ever or will ever be too much for me to capture.

As a side note, if you are another photographer or vendor reading this who profits off capturing love or working in the wedding industry in general, this should be your stance too (and if not, you should for sure consider another career).

Traded the mountains for a gorgeous downtown Denver rooftop sunset proposal yesterday! Hannah and Alec’s proposal was so special. Alec along with the friends and family put so much effort into making this proposal so incredibly special. Congratulations! 🎉 💍

Yohance wanted to propose to Sabrina “where the mountains meet the sea” since when they both started dating he was in Florida and she was in CO. Since there is no sea per se in CO he chose Dillion Marina and had the most beautiful sunrise proposal on their 3 year dating anniversary. Everything about these two’s love story makes me tear up in the best way. Congratulations 🍾🎊🎉🎈
