Yet Another Rose

"There is nothing more difficult for a truly creative painter than to paint a rose, because before he can do so he has first to forget all the roses that were ever painted."
-Henri Matisse

Yeah, that's pretty much what I did. Not sure how many photos of roses I've posted here ... pretty much because I've forgotten when I posted the last one. So many roses, too little time.

Branching Out

A sapling emerging from the trunk of a mature tree. Not sure why this happens so I looked it up. Google says occurences like this can sometimes be linked to environmental stress or unusual growing conditions. Should I be feeling guilty because I think this shot is kind of pretty??

On the road again ...

On Hwy 395 in Central California earlier this week. The first shot was taken just north of Mammoth Mountain on the way up the state heading towards Reno. The second shot was taken at Mono Lake heading back on the very same day. The weather difference in a matter of hours was rather startling. Both shots taken from the back seat at 65 mph. And Mono Lake is really that green. The color comes from massive blooms of microscopic, single-celled green algae that thrive in the lake's salty, alkaline waters. During winter and spring, these algae multiply rapidly, turning the water "pea soup" green before being grazed on by trillions of brine shrimp and alkali flies in the warmer months.

Visiting my brother, Joel, up in Bishop, CA. this week. I am not much of a fisherman but yesterday he took me and my brother in law to his favorite fishing spot, Rock Creek Lake, which is about 30 miles up the mountain from where he lives. I went fishing for photos. Gorgeous country!
