In 2022, when Spark was a spry 11 years old, her mom and my dear friend, Debbie, asked me to take her portraits while I was visiting for the holidays. Spark had festive bows in her ears, and the Chicago weather cooperated with a not-too-cold evening and soft winter sky.
The other day, Debbie sent me a note that she had to let Spark go at 15 years old. She was grateful that she had portraits of Spark when she was still in good health, even with some powdered sugar on her face.
This is why I do what I do. It's never just a photo - it's proof that a good life happened, something to hold onto when the years catch up. As Debbie put it, and has offered me her permission to share: "It Is So Bleep Bleeping Important!"
Rest easy, sweet Spark.
