Summer vibes at the drive-in movies with the Hancock family and their converted school bus.

Last weekend I attended the Driftless Retreat in Wisconsin with a group of mad talented photographers via Unraveled Academy and it was incredible. All the shoots were so different, and seeing each instructor’s distinct approach was inspiring. I learn best from hands-on in person workshops and investing in photography education is absolutely worth it. Thankful for the chance to connect with and learn from other creatives and have the opportunity to travel outside my Lancaster bubble.

It’s all about play for the kids. We hug, frolic, chase, twirl, fly, discover, tickle, laugh, and sometimes get a little messy and wild. I’m there to guide and direct and let the kids just be kids.

I’m a child at heart and capturing young families as they are through movement and play is what makes me love documenting this stage so much.

This particular family has been living out of their RV full time for the past couple years. They've slowly been making their way to the East Coast all the way from Washington state!

A few spring photos from my latest roll of film, all taken around our home.

As a child born in the early 80’s, I’m no stranger to film photography. My first camera was my mom’s all manual Canon AE-1 when I started getting into photography as a pre-teen and I still use the camera to this day.

I admit I am leaning into the pull/trend of analog lately, in particular for the tangible and slower creative process of it all. In a fast world of instant gratification and AI, analog is the opposite. As a person who has a hard time sitting still, whose mind is constantly going, and an enneagram 3 achiever type, I need more reminders to slow down and observe in my life and film helps me do that. Also it’s so nice to shoot a roll and have no post processing or editing to do afterwards!

While I have no plans to give up digital, I am hoping to do more analog this summer. Whether it’s shooting more film or playing more records instead of telling Google what to play. And maybe while I’m at it spending less time staring at this little glass rectangle (although I feel I need an actual strategy for summer with kids at home - send tips! 🤪)

So very excited for this dear family to be growing in number! Cannot wait to meet their little one and find out if they are a boy or a girl!

Jodi wanted spring flowers and open fields for their maternity/family session so we found the perfect spot with some remaining dogwood blooms and wildflowers at Historic Rock Ford

It has been good to reconnect with them since they returned from living abroad in Cambodia. In the past Jodi and I have been told that we look similar (both petite with a similar face shape and features) and we are both artists/creatives so I consider her my doppelgänger :)
