WHOA! Radars across the eastern half of the United States have exploded with reflectivity tonight. Most of what you’re looking at is the result of birds with current estimates now over half a BILLION actively in flight. This is part of the annual fall migration southward and appears to be the busiest night of the season underway.

Fun watching these guys go hunting for food!

I believe this is a lesser yellowlegs, but could be a greater. I am not good at differentiating those, and merlin picked up sounds of both :)

I’m THIS CLOSE to a great blue heron - white morph!!! 😳🫢 (It has yellow legs - not black like an egret. To me, this is the easiest identifiable defining feature to differentiate a white heron vs egret)
