🪣 Bucket List 🪣
I’ve wished for, hoped for, and hiked my tail off for an opportunity to capture images of a bull stripping his velvet. It finally happened with my good luck charm Saxton Archer and the experience was so fulfilling I couldn’t wait to share a piece of it with you.

This outing began low in a canyon where we set out to climb until we found elk. About a thousand feet up, my son, Saxton, spotted this bull above us and it was game on. We played peekaboo with him for a couple hours as he led us up the mountain and bedded near the summit and finally gave us a rest after a 2,500’ climb.

Can’t wait to share video of him stripping his velvet and more dramatic shots of the encounter! Thanks for sharing in our experience! Hope you all have a great week! 📸 Bonus wide-angle image in the comments for all you lovely people who read my captions! 🙏😜

I LOVE me some velvet mule deer crowns!! Now if ol’ stickers in the background wouldn’t of been so camera shy we would have had a real jaw dropper image, but never the less, I do enjoy the early morning light on this close buck.

I was able to get out with the new lens this weekend and enjoyed a fair amount of animal action, but this hummingbird moth, with camera frozen wings, caught while dipping into a purple thistle bloom is by far my favorite because I’m still blown away by the detail captured by a long lens at 15 feet. Images like this make for long days at the office while I anxiously await the next outing! Thanks for stopping by to check it out. Hope you all are having a great week! *Bonus close up image in the comments for those who read this far 😜👇

Yep, you got it…
The lone 🌻!!!
Of course, the pretty velvet whitetail buck and wall of purple wildflowers are a nice bonus. 😜

Do you ever find yourself on a Monday afternoon just wishing you could have another weekend to recover from your weekend? Ya, me neither. 😜 I caught this guy enjoying a morning snooze, recovering from his fun under a blue bird sky, amongst the mountain sunflowers 🌻 and I just couldn’t resist 📸.

Hard to believe these September mornings are right around the corner! A month where these amazing creatures called elk provide an immense amount of sensory overload and joy from their annual life and death battle for continuation of their kind. Each sense is interconnected, yet independently powerful… I can barely stand the anticipation of the views, sounds and smells to come! Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation

To many, I’m sure this is just another piece of equipment, but not to me! You see, out of all the lenses available today, this one is my dream. The Canon 200-400mm F4 with built in 1.4x magnifier. Wasn’t sure if it would ever be in the cards, but some things do work out. Still can’t believe it arrived today! So excited to see how this weekend’s adventures turn out! Many thanks to everyone who continues to support this passion of mine… I look forward to sharing with all of you the beautiful world around us with everything I can muster out of this bad boy! 🙏❤️

There is just something about catching wild animals in water that stirs emotion for me. So instinctual I can feel it in my bones. To experience this dripping wet Shiras bull at mere yards was a gorgeous treat as the sun barely evaded the trees to cast a spotlight effect upon him as he surveyed the shoreline with his velvet crown. The up-close detail of this fella makes me really happy. 🧐😁

With the amazing digital technology photographers have theses days, it is almost an instantaneous reaction to immediately look at the quality of the image just taken… in many cases, I find myself basing my success upon my ability to count the hairs on a critter’s chin. I think this one makes the cut. 🧐😜

My son Saxton Hartsky spotted this buck headed for the ridgeline and I was very fortunate to catch up to him AND get a decent reflection captured.
🤔 It’s always a dilemma, so I was wondering if you could tell me in the comments if you like him near or far?
