I just want to mention something. I really hope this doesn’t sound rude because that’s not my intention at all. I am simply posting this to gain an understanding.
Photography may seem expensive to some but let me just say, photographers don’t get paid enough. Let’s look at these pictures from a single gallery as an example. It was a simple session with not a lot going on to keep focus on the subject. For ONLY the things that are VISIBLE in this session the cost I put in as the photographer was $170. That’s not including my lighting set up, reflector, or stands which would bring the total cost of this simple session up to $810 (This was a session with only one set up. Some sessions have multiple set ups or use additional lights). The total cost is ALSO NOT INCLUDING my camera, and it’s wear and tear, lenses, memory cards, computer and software used to edit the images, cost of continuous education on: photography, lighting, editing, or safety of handling your babies, or the cost of ANYTHING used to run the actual business, it does not include the time of a session or the hours and hours it takes to edit, or the experience I’ve gained over the years. It is just the cost I’ve put into this single set up.
Also, each session is so different, that we need to have multiple props, backdrops, wraps, posing fabrics, wardrobe, decor, etc to choose from and have to keep adding things to keep things up-to-date and fresh with the times.
So the next time you see a photographers prices, please don’t haggle them or say their prices are ridiculous because they are actually worth much, much more than they are quoting you.
