The new column is out!
This one, I focused on the dads of the borderlands in honor of Father’s Day.

John Nakayama 🚜 Gory Guerrero 🤼 and Jimmy Chagra 🎰

Sometimes no matter how these men look to the outside world, in their home they are just dad.

The 1939 murder of Carmen Castro on Tornillo st.

This street comes up a lot in the newspaper archives. This time the story involves two teenage ladies - and supposed jealousy over a boy? Carmen Castro was shot and brutally attacked by her best friend Margarita, who lived across the street.

Margarita became the first woman ever to be tried for murder in Doña Ana county since New Mexico became a state.

I’ve had this case suggested to me several times, and I’m happy to finally be able to post Mr. Lozano‘s case after family members suggestions❤️✨
In January 1990, Salvador “Chava” Lozano was murdered in the Shell gas station where he worked. What has been noted as a case of mistaken identity was buried from the bowling alley murders that happened a month later. she left behind a wife and two children. One of the children was born after he had died. Chava’s parents have since passed away- never learned who killed their son.
Chava’s case has never been solved.

Happy pride month to all of my friends, family, and followers!

I know this is not my typical content as both of these figures are not in the borderlands area…

Even not being part of the LGBTQ+ community, growing up in the San Francisco Bay area, Harvey Milk was still such an inspirational figure to me.
The last time I went back home for a visit they had this set up at the San Francisco airport. What an interesting life that man had!
And of course Martha P Johnson….Who was there on the front lines at the Stonewall Inn that fateful night. Helping to create pride month as it is today.
Both of these historical figures died at the hands of somebody else.
Harvey was shot in his office in San Francisco, and Martha was found floating in the Hudson River. While under mysterious circumstances, the police at the time still had no interest in investigating her murder. It was officially ruled undetermined, drowning.

You don’t have to be a part of the community to celebrate these wonderful people! Happy Pride! 🏳️‍🌈❤️🏳️‍⚧️

Big thank you to the wonderful people at PBS news who did the segment on Martha that I clipped.

The newspapers described her as having many loves as she had been married and divorced more than once.
Who would wanna kill Mrs. Pollard and why?

When I am researching a case and I find out they are buried at the Masonic cemetery - I’m there! That’s been my backyard since we moved here. The birds, the trees, the grass…. The history! …

…the numbered sections as opposed to sections named after angels 🥺❤️ be still my heart!

I may need to do a series and go back to my Find a Grave roots. Pick out graves to research - starting with the Masonic! So many amazing stories I want to snoop 🪦💙
