It was March 1999. Before any talk of digital, and another instance of Adobe Photoshop not being an option to rescue any shortcomings.
As always, my fearless collaborator, fashion director, and stylist extraordinaire and I concocted this boxer story, starring the great model and human (Ed Miller), alongside Tracye Jo Logan as the ‘Aristocrat love interest and benefactor’.
A few fun facts of this shoot:
-We located a working boxing gym willing to let us use their premises.
-The same gym offered us a sparring partner (Antoine Williams) for our non-boxing model.
-The makeup artist at the time, was skilled, but not versed in special effect makeup. I stepped in, brushed off my old makeup skills to give our boxer his injured-lost-the-fight bruised eye look.
-The dark red pants in the pic of her standing with him on the edge of the ring were worth $15K.
-The necklace in the pics of her consoling his was worth $250K.
-In cases like this where we have such valuable assets on set, there is a US Marshall in charge of delivering to set, and returning said assets to their point of origin.
-One very special note: The hotel and casino that allowed us to create on their property closed for good one and a half years later. It is the site where the Wynn Las Vegas and Encore now stand. This was the former historic Desert Inn Hotel.
