One week, almost to the minute, after I'd shot our Cessna 560, our local Cessna 501 Citation I/SP came back home right at sunset. I'd debated doing another head-on shot, but chose this angle instead.

Looking back on this year so far, while it hasn't been the most active for us as far as airshows and expeditions go, we did manage two airshows, we did get to visit Offutt, Whiteman, and St. Louis on the first of our two summer road trips, we did get some firefighting action, and we did get a gorgrous warbird here.

So, in spite of foreign conflicts and physical limitations, while it hasn't been the most active year for us, we still got some good stuff.

As such, I've been playing more with sunset shots at my local airfield when able. This Cessna 560 Citation Ultra, which is based right here, and is one of two Citations that appesrs to fly most frequently between here and Seattle, came in right as the sun was about to dip below the horizon for the night.

Well, for some reason I'd had absolutely zero clue that a lunar eclipse was underway when my son and I stepped out to the store for cheese. 🤣

I'd decided to take a quick recon by my local airfield, and as we were headed that way, my son points out that the moon looked odd. At first, I thought it was cloud cover on the horizon, but he quickly noted "dad, dude...the sky is clear."

So we went and grabbed our cheese necessary for dinner, and then promptly stood outside with our respective cameras for about an hour...

When a piece of American military history visits rural Idaho.

On Monday, I had gone out to my local airfield to catch an Islander that was operating in place of the usual Caravan flight, as it was arriving later than usual. When I arrived and did a position check on ADSB, an absolute legend popped up ahead of it.

I had missed this Douglas A-26C Invader named "Million Airess" from Million Air when she came through last year. Based out of Million Air Houston Hobby in Texas, this is certainly a very rare treat...and if it hadn't been for the late Islander, I'd have missed her again.

Million Airess is a highly decorated combat veteran, serving in combat during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam.

What a gorgeous piece of history...

An excerpt from the Vampire diaries.

While we were out galavanting across most of the midwest back in June, I decided that we were going to try for some shots at St. Louis Lambert International Airport. As is my usual luck (or perhaps just my lack of timing prowess), none of what I'd gone for had actually flown. But that doesn't mean we left empty-handed.

Before I finally bagged it and called it a day, this U.S. Navy Boeing F/A-18F Super Hornet from VX-9 "Vampires" out of NAWS China Lake decided to give us a crumb of activity.

So, no brand new Eagles or Hornets. But a VX-9 gas-n-go will always do...

Danger Dorito. Black Magic. Invisible Death. Missing Pixels. Whatever it is we call her, nobody can say with a straight face that this aircraft isn't an absolute marvel of aerodynamic prowess.

On day one at Whiteman Air Force Base back in June, we were treated to not one, but several approaches by this United States Air Force Air Combat Command Air Force Global Strike Command Northrop Grumman B-2A Spirit from the 509th Bomb Wing. This particular airframe is named "Spirit of Nebraska" with "Lindbergh's Own" also written on her doors.

What a masterpiece she is...

Check out who and what is my local airport currently! I missed 'em last year when they came in, but I got 'em this time.

I was actually out awaiting a lonely Islander that was running late when I saw this gorgeous Douglas A-26B Invader "Million Airess" from Million Air out of Houston pop up on ADSB.

More pics to come in the near future...these are just phone pics.

Hawg dump!

Several United States Air Force Air Force Reserve Fairchild A-10C Thunderbolt IIs from the 442nd Fighter Wing at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri, as well as a pair from the 944th Figher Wing out of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona, were all over it on two of the three days we were in the area back in June.

The "Dogpatchers" birds were an unexpected but very pleasant surprise...

I got your six.

A pair of United States Air Force Air Force Reserve Fairchild A-10C Thunderbolt IIs from the 442nd Fighter Wing at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri make their approach to land. Although probably just repositioning prior to landing, it certainly appeared as though the wingman was performing a BDA on lead as they made their approach.

I've struggled to catch up with the 442nd's A-10s over the last couple years, so to finally catch them, let alone a two-ship, was a special treat...
