Little Lakes Valley Trail with the clouds clearing out after a little weather last weekend made for some great photos. My buddy Mike Pilarski is crossing this little foot bridge as we hiked in to camp over night at the overcrowded Gem Lakes. We got a pretty good spot in the woods off the lake, but there were tons of people on the granite along the lake and they were pooping and peeing all over each other - we kept our distance. I didn't take any pics of them defecating all over the place, but I did get some other pretty good pics of the great weather and beautiful scenery that I will post in the next couple days.

Some sunset reflections on Cooney Lake in the Virginia Lakes of the Sierra the other night. I think we were pretty much done for the day and thinking about dinner after the sun went down and I picked my head up out of the bear cannister to see the post sunset going off and snapped a few shots of some Fire in the Sky with the ND filter on the lens to get a glassy sheen over the lake as the wind was still going with a bit of weather rolling in... But that weather made for some bad ass photos that day and the following few days. I'll throw some more up here from this trip.
And like all my shots, this is available for print and I shot this with a real camera so it is a large and in charge high resolution print! There's a ton of ways to get a hold of me for prints... You'll figure it out.

Although things did not work out getting pics of the Perseids in Great Basin, they did work out in Death Valley National Park with this shot of 2 shooting stars above the iconic Badwater Basin and Telescope Peak - shot from Dante's View high above the valley floor. We took off from Vegas as soon as we got home from Great Basin National Park that night and headed to Death Valley after confirming that the cloud cover - that was inhibiting the view of the stars and meteor shower over most of the southwest - wasn't as bad in Death Valley National Park . Things worked out pretty well with the clouds parting above and we got to see quite a few, but I did get to capture a couple shooting stars and this great shot with the Milky Way and Perseids in front of it.

A little bit of Great Basin National Park…. The clouds were incredible during the day, but not so cooperative that night — they parked themselves right over the sky while I was out shooting the Perseids. Still caught a few shooting stars sneaking through the gaps. That, plus a stop in Death Valley last night, means there's a lot more coming this week. Stick around 👀

Some more cool looking twisted wood out on a mountain... This shot was from Bumpass Trailhead parking lot. What a great name for a parking lot!!! I am going to go out on a limb here and say that this is a Whitebark Pine - anyone have a clue on what kinda wood this is? I am used to Pinyons in the desert, but I don't think they have migrated up to Lassen yet.

Who wants rain again in the desert??? Just about a month ago I took this landscape shot of a sunset out at Red Rock Canyon Las Vegas and it wasn't so hot that clouds just vaporized in the sky like it has been for the past week or two.
Technically, I used an ND filter at something like a 2 minute exposure to get that streaky cloud moving going on. My camera will melt, if I got out now and take pics!

Uprooted...
The roots of Bristlecone Pines are even more wild than the trunks, branches and bark of these trees. Escaping the heat hell of Vegas, Mt Charleston has plenty of Bristlecones to go get lost in, as well as the trees that are felled up on the Spring Mountain range.... So I just wandered around snapping root shots the other day. This one loops like the aliens in Starship Troopers.

On this past 4th of July, while everybody was blasting bald eagles and owls out of the sky with their fireworks, I let mother nature and baby Jesus put on nature's firework show in .... Just to share with all of you. It was cloudy for the most part, all the way up until about 20 minutes from taking this shot. And this is not a stack or a blend or whatever graphic design s**t, but just a photo at 6 seconds, f2.8 and 5000 ISO. I hung out on the northwest corner of Manzanita Lake, on the edge of the lake with the woods behind me and some bears moving all about around me. Earlier that day, I scoped this spot and knew that it would be money to chill out here for a bit at night.

Lassen Peak on a newish moon night with some crazy asses doing a summit in the middle of the night.. you can see their headlamp in the pic. Which looked kinda fun. I've come down off of Mt Whitney late at night, so it's not that crazy. There is plenty to do Lassen Volcanic National Park , so I definitely recommend the Park.
