Last week I introduced you to the traditions in a traditional Chabad wedding, this week I show you the pure JOY at receptions. Enjoy this sneak peek gallery, part 3 with Leah & Isroel's wedding at The Venue in Leawood. First, the couple is escorted back into the reception where the men and women are separated by a divider to dance and share in the celebrations! And then, you'll see at THIS Chabad wedding, there's a moment where the bride is invited through the curtain to the other side to celebrate with everyone! The two sides are united. Stay tuned for more, I have to give you all a final 4th part to show off all of the fun of a Chabad wedding. Celebrations are everything! Mazel Tov!

Thank you so much for your votes! I am so honored to receive 5th place in the much coveted Best of Lawrence Awards for Best Artist - Photography / Digital Media! I am happy to be at this stage in life--about to celebrate my 50th birthday this month and making photography that is truly my best work yet! But the real win is in the eyes of the senior portrait kids when they see me seeing them and understanding who they are as people. The real win is with my couples who trust me to capture of the most important days of their lives; and with the professionals who I help amplify and take to the next level in their branding. I am here because my clients are SUPER AWESOME. Thank you to my clients and everyone who voted!

I invite everyone to come out to my 50th birthday party and 30+ year retrospective of my punk, q***r, activist, hip hop photography + some AMAZING artists from within those circles here in Lawrence. Check out the list on the flyer--we will be hosting art by the woman who invented the letters LFK who was one of the Pirate House punks Leslie Kuluva, we will have punk historian and icon Bob Cutler, muralist/community organizer and artist Dave Loewenstein who puts together the Kansas People's History Project and so much more! Mark Sept 25 5pm-midnight on your calendars for my last show in the OpenStudios Lawrence studio at 938 Massachusetts Street before it changes hands to the Lawrence Potter's Guild!

The wedding ceremony in Chabad weddings are so very full of traditions! There is so much symbolism and tradition embedded in the ceremony. The groom stands under a chupah beneath an open sky awaiting the bride who is escorted by her family. She then circles the groom seven times before the marriage ceremony begins. During the ceremony the groom places a ring on the bride's finger which is witnessed by two kosher witnesses. The ketubah is read; this is a marriage contract, the first in human history that speaks the rights of women, wherein the groom's responsibilities for the bride are read aloud (such as obligations to provide her with food, affection, clothing and other requirements). Seven blessings are given to the bride and groom with w**e by members of their families. Then a glass is broken beneath the foot of the groom and everyone says Mazel Tov! Throughout the ceremony the rabbi explains why everything is done the way it is done, and I find the entire ceremony to be so beautiful to witness! Thank you to Leah & Isroel for giving me the opportunity to document their wedding and share them on social media. It is such an honor to witness beautiful cultural traditions such as these. Enjoy part two of the sneak peeks! In part three, we get to enjoy the wedding reception! What a fun party!

It was with great joy that I documented Leah and Isroel's wedding at The Venue in Leawood last weekend! It is so special to me that the Chabad Jewish community hires me to document so much for their community. Getting to know entire families who attend Jewish events year round, and documenting Bar and Bat Mitzvahs and upsherin celebrations, as well as important Jewish holidays is such a joy for me. I love the joy within the Chabad community and the ways in which they celebrate milestones! What a beautiful community. Thank you to Leah and Isroel for giving me permission to share a sneak peek into the Chassidic Jewish experience. Documenting cultures is such a joy for me! Mazel Tov!

Part one: we begin with the bride and groom in in separate rooms with women congratulating the bride and sharing in her joy and the men congregating with the groom before the groom walks to the bride to give blessings before her veil is lowered for the ceremony.

Yesterday I met up with Lydia & her mom at our beloved sunflower field just outside of Lawrence. Lydia and I designed the perfect senior portrait session for her which includes three shoots: a quick mini in the sunflower field, a nature shoot at Perry Lake, and then she will be dyeing her hair and we will be doing a metropolitan girl-in-the-city shoot at The Nelson in Kansas City.

Lydia has refined tastes and after meeting with her for the planning session, I knew exactly what she wanted in a senior portrait photography--I am so happy she found me and we could build her a perfect session that builds towards her aspirations to be working in museums in the future with college in Chicago. I love helping young women fulfill their dreams and help give mentorship on how I received a full ride scholarship to a college thousands of miles from home. It's not every woman's story, but it is mine and I am happy to have met Lydia and feel so much kinship with her.

I'm doing sunflower sessions at our beloved field, there are very limited openings. Please text me to book 785-979-5632

I still have some openings for family sessions in the fall and for senior portraits! Trust me, if you have a Class of 2027 senior, you're going to want to get a jump on things and hit those deadlines early. I see so many stressed out parents each year and wanna help you and your teenager have a good stress-free experience. The QR code takes you to my website.
