Loved the afternoon of Humpback Whales on the Hurricane II from Cape Ann Whale Watching out of Gloucester, Massachusetts! So many whales and they put on an amazing show for us.

Towards the end of my time on the Big Island I went on a tour with Hawaii Forest and Trail to find a particular bird I was searching for. It was an amazing experience and I finally found what I was looking for in addition to many other birds. I plan on doing this tour every time I am on the Big Island.
I was in search of the ‘I’IWI aka: Scarlet Honeycreeper (endemic and threatened). Though I was fortunate to also find ‘Apapane (endemic), Hawai’i ‘Amakihi (endemic), Hawai’i Creeper (endemic) and the Hawai’i ‘Akepa (endemic and endangered).

During a recent trip to Port Aransas, Texas I was able to photograph Whooping Cranes. They travel each year to the area for the Winter months. This is a couple that has been coming to the island for the last 6-7 years. This year they had two offspring which are called Colts.
Whooping Cranes are the tallest North American Bird.
It is one of only two crane species native to North America. It is an endangered crane species. They have a life span of 22-24 years in the wild. Currently (as of November 2022) there are estimated to be 543 Whooping Cranes.
It is such a treat to see them!
