This was May 18th, yesterday. I can't recall if I've every seen smoke filled valleys this early from the Canadian wildfires, I would have pegged these photos from late June or later if objectively I had no idea when they were taken. Also this day was the anniversary of Mt. St. Helens blowing its top.

Seems like I always talk about endless lines to be seen when looking up at these Cascade Mountains. It really is true, and most of the time, you can find a time during the season to ski them, unlike that continental snowpack that remains untouchable for most of the season. (The last photo)

I'm told there's a few ways to tell a storm is in coming or there's gonna be a change in the weather. The classic for the Seattle area is a lenticular cloud over Mt. Rainier, but the newer one is the big halo of ice crystals around the sun. And that is indeed what we saw this day, which saw a small system move in overnight.
