Hey everyone — it’s been a little quiet here lately.

Life has been busy, but behind the scenes I’ve been working on reconnecting with the creative side of myself that first made me fall in love with photography.

A few weeks ago I picked up a new lens for a small at-home project and decided it was time to start creating again.

Meet JellyBean, my very patient (and slightly judgmental) model for the evening 🐾

Sometimes the best inspiration is right at home.

A year ago today, my universe shattered. I lost my best friend, my soul dog, Hermes, and the world has never felt quite the same since. The aftershocks of that loss still echo through my days, leaving a quiet loneliness that never fully fades.

Yet I made him a promise — that I would keep opening my heart and my home to the ones still waiting in shelters, just as I once did for him. And somehow, in the soft moments, I know he is still here.

I feel him in golden sunsets, when the dogs race and tumble through the backyard, carefree and full of life — his favorite time of day, and mine. I see him in the falling autumn leaves, the ones he loved to curl up in, and in the first snowfall, when joy explodes in every paw print across the yard.

I miss him more than words can say. He was my protector, my constant, my safety. And I know he did not leave without making sure I would never be alone. I believe he placed Sully in my life to watch over me, to guard my heart, and to be the strength I could lean on when the world felt too heavy.

This past year has often felt like living in a sunless world — but even in the darkness, his light still finds me.

“I got chicksssss that are multiplying!!!! And I am losing control!!!” Yep… 4 more babies were added to the SkiFlock.
The Rhode Island Reds are named after the Golden Girls but one might be a Rooster.
The little yellow flock are Silkies and the names are all random but fitting… Bonquiqui, Goobie Tubie, Nuggie, and Pollito. The boys named 2 of them 🫠🫠. Thank you to my beautiful cousin Nereida for helping me find my Silkies 🥰

So I went to Miami this last week to visit my brother and his family. I was looking for a photographer that could take my 40th birthday pictures weeks prior, for a reasonable price with no luck. Thursday morning I took the boys early in the morning to go look at the sunrise and a few minutes later I see 2 ladies coming towards us. One was a photographer and the other was her client. I took a chance and asked her if she would be available last minute, the next day, Friday, as we were leaving early in the morning Saturday. She was able to schedule me in and I also found out we share the last name Garcia.
All I can say is that meeting her was definitely fate as she rocked the photoshoot but made me feel absolutely beautiful, something I struggle with when others take my pictures.

This is my 40 … grateful for the life I have been given and the path that I will continue to take!

Also, if you are ever in Miami you all need to hire this amazing woman as your photographer … I cannot thank her enough! .garcia.alegria

2 years ago I drove you to a hotel in Austin so you can take a break from life and so that I could take some pictures of you. What I would give to have had those hours last longer. Every single last interaction is tattooed in every wrinkle of my brain. Your sweet voice echoes in each of those memories reminding me that I won’t be able to hear it in this life, this dimension, in this moment. I fu***ng miss you and I am fu***ng angry your gone. 2 fu***ng years ago I had you in my life. 2 fu***ng years ago I could pick up that phone and call you. 2 years ago you were still here.

Nothing can ever prepare you for having to put your best friend to sleep. For the empty hole that is left when they leave this physical world. For the many nights and days that you spend crying wondering was it too soon or if there was anything else that could have been done. These are some of Nibbler’s and my last pictures we took. There is no doubt in my mind he sent Sully to me and that he told him everything about us. Thankful to have been able to give Nibbler a loving home for 14.5 years.
