These two boys are going to be the BEST big brothers to their sweet baby sister, knowing her arrival is approaching so soon has me so giddy for them. 💛 One of my favorite parts of this job is that, over time, my clients stop feeling like clients. They become friends. Some even become like family.
After 11 years of doing this, I’ve gotten to be part of so many little pieces of my families’ stories. I’ve known about babies growing in their bellies before some of their own family members did. I’ve helped plan announcements, sometimes been the only person who knew the gender for a little while, held hands in birthing rooms, cuddled newborns, and helped parents figure out how to soothe a colicky baby.
I’ve chased toddlers around, listened to their very important little stories, gotten to know grandparents and parents who tag along to sessions, and watched these tiny humans grow year after year. I’ve helped create holiday cards, documented birthdays and milestones, and somehow gotten to watch families grow right in front of my camera.
And honestly, there are days when the business side of this business feels overwhelming. Especially in this economy. The editing, marketing, taxes, studio upkeep, scheduling, and the fact that there is basically NEVER a consistent schedule. 😂 Sometimes it’s a lot. But then I get to do this. I get to show up with my camera and be a tiny part of someone’s story. I get to preserve the seasons of their lives that they’ll one day wish they could go back to. I get to watch babies become toddlers, toddlers become big kids, and families grow.
And when I step back and look at the last 11 years, that’s the part I’m most grateful for. I don’t just take pictures. I get to be there. And I absolutely love it. 💛
