On Saturday, September 19, we’re teaching a hands-on workshop at Worcester Center for Crafts designed specifically for artists and makers who want to create stronger, cleaner, more professional photographs of their work.

We’ll work with simple tabletop setups, light, composition, natural and artificial lighting, and real-time problem solving — with techniques you can actually repeat later in your own studio.

Bring your jewelry, ceramics, textiles, woodwork, glass, metalwork, or other tabletop-sized pieces and we’ll work through the challenges together.

A little behind-the-scenes peek at something Scott and I have been creating—a food photography workshop that we’ll soon be sharing online!

Our friend James generously made the most beautiful cookies, cakes, and focaccia for us to photograph. Beautiful light, delicious subjects, and plenty of laughter made this such a fun lesson to record.

Behind the scenes with Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah Dogs on Speen Street in Framingham! 🌭🍔

We had so much fun photographing their menu—from hot dogs and hamburgers to Lemonade . And, naturally, Scott took his role as official taste-tester very seriously. Someone had to make sure everything was as delicious as it looked!

A little glimpse behind the scenes with Chef Alina—and proof that every polished photograph begins with a bit of wonderfully creative chaos.

There was gorgeous food being prepared and styled, hair and makeup happening between conversations, plenty of hands making tiny adjustments, and a room full of people bringing their particular talents to the table.

These are the days we love: good food, good people, lots of collaboration, and the quiet thrill of watching an idea come together one detail at a time.

Chef Alina is always a joy to photograph. She brings so much personality, color, and energy to everything she creates—and yes, the studio smelled every bit as delicious as you’re imagining.

What do you do when a client asks you if you’re available to photograph in Newport, RI?!

You say yes please - and enjoy the assignment… in beautiful weather… by the ocean… with creative and fun people you laugh with all day long…

And because of this, you forget to take behind-the-scenes photos... sigh, so I only have this one photo from the shoot.

I absolutely LOVE getting a peek behind the curtain of how another artist works and my friend Jean’s process is just fascinating.

In this video, she walks through the steps she uses to create her beautiful images with InkAid, and watching the piece develop is almost as wonderful as seeing the finished artwork.

There’s something I especially love about work where the process leaves its fingerprints on the final piece. It isn’t just an image coming out of a printer. There are decisions, experiments, materials, happy surprises, and all those little moments where the artist’s hand becomes part of the work.

Jean creates such beautiful, thoughtful pieces, and seeing how she gets from an idea to the finished artwork makes me appreciate them even more.

And, as an artist myself, this kind of thing makes me ridiculously happy. 😂 Give me interesting materials, a creative process, and someone willing to experiment and I am ALL IN.

My friend Rachel Morris is giving a free artist talk at Metalwerx in Waltham, and if you’ve never heard her speak, or seen her work in person, you’re in for a treat.

Rachel creates jewelry that is unlike anything else I’ve seen. It’s inventive, beautifully engineered, and full of really delightful surprises. The longer you look, the more you discover.
