It is always an honor to be asked to take photos. But there were so many times when I put the viewfinder to my eye last Monday night I was reminded what an incredible honor it was to be asked to photograph the Kentucky Writers Hall of Fame induction ceremony at the Kentucky Theatre. It was a beautiful evening celebrating the written word in the Commonwealth with stirring words and moments filling the night. Thanks to Tom Eblen and the Carnegie Center for asking me to do this.

Nothing can get you in the Christmas spirt quite like a snowy drive into the outskirts of Lexington listening to Christmas tunes — think Darlene Love, Nat King Cole — and documenting the work a legion of volunteers for The Toy Chest were doing to make sure more than 1,300 have a wonderful Christmas.

A few weeks ago, I spent a few days with volunteers from Presbyterian Disaster Assistance still working hard to restore homes and other buildings in Western North Carolina following the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene. A year later, some work is done, but there is so much left to do.

I've taken photos for articles by numerous amazing writers, but there is something really special about sharing a story with Kevin Nance. Thanks to Undermain for using these images with Kevin's story on ActOut Theatre Group, Inc.'s amazing show, which continues this Friday through Sunday. https://undermainarts.org/angels-in-america-pt-ii

Make plans! One weekend left of ActOut Theatre Group, Inc.'s production of Tony Kushner's "Angels in America Part Two: Perestroika," directed by Drew Barr, at the Pam Miller Arts Center. It was a particular honor to be asked back to photograph the second half of this historic show, and you don't want to miss it!

I’m in Western North Carolina for work work following up on Hurricane Helene — commemorations of the one-year anniversary and the continuing recovery work. As part of that, it was a balm to hear David LaMotte speak and play, framing this moment as only he can.

So proud of this series we worked on to share the story of Oak Grove Presbyterian Church in Bloomington, Minnesota and it's journey toward repair of historic harms to the Indigenous population there. Shani Mcilwain and I worked with the Rev. Jermaine Ross-Allam of the PC(USA) Center for Repair of Historic Harms and Milissa Carter of Restorative Action to record the interviews in Bloomington, and then Rev. Beth Waltemath in consultation with Jermaine crafted the five parts of the series. Truly a team effort to share an important and groundbreaking story, and we cannot say enough about the generosity and honesty of the people of Oak Grove. Read more here, and hit that first link in the story for all five installments of the series. https://pcusa.org/news-storytelling/news/2025/8/7/zero-one-reflection-reparations

Have I mentioned I love photographing theater? This one was extra special returning to the The Lexington Theatre Company, which I have followed since it was just an idea in Lyndy and Jeromy’s heads, for its 10th Anniversary. “42nd Street” looks like it will be every bit as sharp and exhilarating as it was in 2015. Here are some photos from rehearsal last Wednesday, and you can read the story and watch a video at the 🔗👇
