From a blank canvas and simply an idea to the first strokes of color to the idea coming to life.
I knew I wanted to do another painting for my Endangered Animals Awareness series and with the recent devastating news that the current US administration was going to open the Gulf to oil rigs, the choice of animal was clear - The Rice’s Whale.
The Rice’s Whale is a critically endangered species and the only whale that lives year round in the Gulf of Mexico. There are currently fewer than 50 whales left and with the recent exemption given to the oil & gas industries to allow drilling in their habitat, the future of the Rice’s Whale is looking grim.
This painting will aim to show the juxtaposition between the disastrous impacts the oil and gas industry are having on this species and the type of peaceful life they could have if they were protected from human greed.
Upon completion, 25% of the profits from this painting and any prints sold will be donated to organizations that focus on helping preserve the Rice’s Whale habitat and population.
