For the last 6 days, I've been heading out the back door of Monica's Dad's house - morning, midday, evening. I've braved the mosquitoes (yes, they have them here even in Arizona), the sun, the cacti, and the dense tree cover. The roadrunners have eluded me, but I've picked up some nice shots of new-to-us hummingbirds, other birds, and quail.

We took the day off from photography so all credit goes to our great friend Anna Shapovalova for photos and video. The Salt River is a 200 mile long waterway from the White Mountains to the Gila River. It passes near Phoenix and Mesa and the lower Salt River is famous for tube floating. The views are spectacular and the wild horses in the mountains and grazing riverside were super. With temperatures showing around 110-117 today, it was a great way to cool off.

Monica and Jason both got their USCG Master's Licenses through Mariner's Learning Center. Great training and helpful staff. If you're thinking about becoming a captain or want some great training, the Labor Day sale is a great time to start. Use Breathe35 for 35% off.

Visiting with our good friend Anna in Florence, AZ. So today we drove about two hours to the Aravaipa Canyon Wilderness.

With towering cliffs, flowing water, and a rich diversity of flora and fauna, Aravaipa Canyon Wilderness remains one of Arizona's truly unique areas. Its 19,410 acres of designated wilderness beckon adventurers who yearn for solitude and scenic splendor. Located in southeast Arizona, roughly between Tucson and Phoenix, the wilderness and surrounding public and private land conserve a vital ecosystem for future generations.

Aravaipa Creek flows year-round, an unusual phenomenon in the Arizona desert. Nurtured by this abundant water, large sycamore, ash, cottonwood, and willow trees flourish along the stream, flanked by other riparian vegetation.

The Bureau of Land Management manages Aravaipa Canyon Wilderness to protect its essential wilderness character and fragile environment while providing the visitor with a world-class opportunity for primitive and unconfined recreation. You must have a permit to hike, backpack, and hunt in Aravaipa Canyon and all the side canyons.

Only 30 people a day can enter from the west and 20 from the east. It is truly a pristine place. We were the ONLY 3 on the western side today. Why? Well, it was hot - when we returned to the car, the reading was 112 degrees Fahrenheit!

Viewed the lunar eclipse from Arizona. Started out cloudy, but as the eclipse progressed, we had a great view with dark skies.
All were handheld shots between 1/15-1/25 sec; Nikkor Z 180-600 lens shot open. Cropped with minor adjustments and noise reduction in Adobe Lightroom. Last photo was just for fun - see what happens when your hand shakes!

Did you see the eclipse tonight? If so, post where you were and a photo if you took one!

For those who say that a large company like Starlink doesn't listen or care about small groups, the cruising community responded in significant numbers to Starlink's changes that became effective on August 17th, and the result is:

Stay Connected on the Water
Your Starlink has operated at sea in the past year. We have a new plan—Personal Maritime—for people who use Starlink on a vessel and stay on the water for extended periods before returning to their home country.

Your current Roam plan includes coverage in territorial waters, with Ocean Mode as a paid option beyond 12 nautical miles. International use is limited to 30 days at a time outside your registered home country, after which you can return home to continue service. Effective September 27, Ocean Mode will be $6/GB.

If that 30-day limit doesn’t fit how you travel, Personal Maritime may be the better option.

Introducing Personal Maritime
Personal Maritime keeps you connected on the water as you move between countries, without the 30-day Roam travel limit.

$185/month USD, excluding applicable taxes
Unlimited data and use in territorial waters worldwide
Ocean Mode available beyond 12 nautical miles for $6/GB
No 30-day Roam international travel limit, except in extremely rare cases when required by local regulations
This plan is for small personal vessels—not yachts or commercially operated vessels (including ferries and commercial fishing)—and is not intended for use on land.

To switch to Personal Maritime, you will be asked to provide information about your vessel:

Vessel name
Flag state
Length overall (LOA)
A unique ID (such as Hull Identification Number, Craft Identification Number, MMSI, or ITU Call Sign)
A copy of your vessel's Registration Certificate
If you are interested, you can create a ticket with support below. We’ll follow-up with next steps, including terms of service.

Recap of Your Options
Remain on Roam. Continue on your current plan and follow the updated travel policy, including the 30-day international limit. Ocean Mode will be $6/GB starting September 27
Switch to Personal Maritime. Stay connected on the water without the 30-day international limit. Click the button above to get started
Switch to Global Priority. The most flexible option: coverage on land and in the open ocean, prioritized data on the network, and no 30-day travel limit
You can manage or change plans anytime from your account.

Thank you for choosing Starlink.
