Making the Jacaranda...

This is one of the most popular paintings in my gallery. It is titled, "Jacaranda Tree of Hearts". I created this painting shortly after I had an overwhelming experience of delight & joy after being parked with the sun roof open, under one of the beautiful Jacaranda trees that decorate the streets of Santa Monica, CA. It was breath taking to be sure to be bathed in the beautiful, delicate lavender color. I also have an affinity with trees, so of course, the roots are firmly seated in the earth with love, signified by the hearts.

I start with connecting to the soul of the tree... feeling for how deep the roots are, what is the strength of the trunk, and how reaching are the limbs & branches. Then I feel for the richness of the ground, adding ground covering & discerning the temprament of the atmosphere where it makes it's home. Last, I feel the energy of the soul and how it expresses itself with leaves, flowery petals, color, & scent. I put all that into my paintings which takes several layers & contemplation of the essence thereof.
