Cameron the Capitol Cat Sculpture Update

Plans continue to move forward for a permanent bronze sculpture of Cameron the Capitol Cat, created by renowned sculptor Ben Victor.

The vision is for Cameron to become a piece of interactive public art—something Capitol visitors can walk up to, photograph, touch, and even “pet.” Ben hopes that over the years, countless hands will naturally create a polished patina on Cameron’s bronze head—a visible reminder of how many people have stopped to show their love for Nebraska’s Capitol Cat.

The Capitol Environs Committee meets Friday, September 25 at 8:30 AM at the Lincoln City County Building. We would love to see as many Cameron supporters there as possible.

The project is funded entirely through private donations. Every contribution helps bring Cameron one step closer to a permanent place at the Capitol.

An Incredible First Day for Cameron

In just the first day, we’ve already raised more than $2,000 toward a permanent bronze sculpture of Cameron The Capitol Cat at the Nebraska State Capitol.

Beyond the Image: Advanced Awagami Printing and Display workshop with Les Picker

Last weekend I traveled to Havre de Grace, Maryland, for my third workshop with fine art photographer Les Picker—this time exploring Awagami Japanese washi papers and how paper, printing, mounting, and presentation become part of the finished photograph.

It was an incredible weekend and reinforced something I believe strongly: a photograph doesn’t end with the image.

I wrote about the experience, the remarkable Unryu and Bizan papers, and what I brought home from the workshop in my latest blog.
