Hello hi. Last month I turned 30. A couple weeks later I broke my right hand, playing pickleball. Yes Pickleball. So far, 30 has been a little weird, challenging, and very very humbling. This injury has forced me to slow down during the busiest time of my year. While adjusting and learning how to do things with just one hand has been interesting to say the least (if you have any tips on buttoning up pants one handed please share) I couldn’t do it without the amazing and unwavering support from my friends and family, and of course the talented nurses, doctors and occupational therapists who have gone above and beyond to make sure my hand returns to full strength and mobility. I still have quite a few weeks to go until I’m back to 100%, but I know I will get there. I’m with all that said, I just want to thank all my amazing clients who have been so kind for giving me the grace and time to heal. I love you all.

I stopped taking photos.

One of the beautiful parts of being a photographer, is the capability to deeply look into your own past, through your eyes, or at least, what your eyes used to see. For as long as I can remember, whenever I’ve looked back at my work, I’d say to myself “oh I could have done that better” and beaten myself up for not being better then. Lately I’ll come across an archive drive and take look through some old galleries and think to myself “wow I used to be so good at documenting my life”. I’m understanding now that my career has overtaken my passion, and that at some point I’ve stopped taking photographs for myself.

I’m not sure if this is something that happens to every professional at some point in their carrier, I’m sure some of my friends can empathize, but I know that when I set out on this road, I had made a promise to myself to maintain personal documentation a priority, and yet I find myself without a camera on my hip more often than not.

I don’t want to live like that anymore. I miss having galleries to share from the places I’ve ventured to, and I miss having that fun little feeling I would get when a landscape would simply mesmerize me. I’m missing the magic that’s around not because it’s gone, but because I’ve shut myself off from it. So here’s to magic, and to taking some real fu***ng sweet photos of it.
