Your baby's first p**p has a name.

Meconium.

It's usually dark greenish-black, incredibly sticky, and looks nothing like the adorable little diapers you probably pictured when you imagined having a baby.

It's made from things that accumulated in your baby's intestines before birth.

Basically…

your baby comes into the world with their first diaper already on the schedule. 😂

Your baby doesn't just “slide out” during a vaginal birth.

They actually make a series of movements and rotations to navigate through your pelvis.

Their head changes position.

Their shoulders rotate.

Their body adjusts.

It's a remarkably coordinated process between mother and baby.

So when you look at that newborn and think, “How did you possibly fit in there?”

The answer is:

A LOT of very impressive biology. ❤️

Ever wonder why newborns grab your finger?

That tiny squeeze isn't just because they like you. 😉

It's part of a newborn reflex called the grasp reflex.

Their little hand automatically closes around something that touches their palm.

But here's the part I love:

Even though it's a reflex, you still get to experience it.

That tiny hand wrapped around your finger.

That moment is real.

And you only get it with a newborn.

Your baby's first home was an organ your body actually built specifically for them.

The placenta isn't just “the thing that comes out after the baby.”

It's a temporary organ that develops during pregnancy and helps deliver oxygen and nutrients, remove waste, produce hormones, and transfer antibodies.

Your body literally grew an entire support system for another human being.

And then, when its job was done, you delivered that too.

Here's a thought that might make you look at your baby differently:

Some of your cells can cross into your baby's body during pregnancy.

And some of your baby's cells can cross into yours.

Some fetal cells have even been found in mothers years or decades after pregnancy.

So in a very tiny, microscopic way…

parts of you can remain in your child, and parts of your child can remain in you.

Long after those newborn days are over. ❤️

Your baby wasn't just sitting around waiting for birth.

They were practicing.

Swallowing.

Sucking.

Stretching.

Hiccupping.

Making breathing movements.

Moving their arms and legs.

Even opening and closing their mouth.

Long before that first cry, your baby was already rehearsing for life on the outside.
