Kicking off August wedding posts with Kate & Patrick’s gorgeous day!

If I had to sum it up in three words: joyful, emotional, and unhurried.

My favorite moment was Patrick’s face when he saw Kate for the first time - he could barely hold it together. The rest of the day just kept unfolding like that, one real moment after another.

This summer has had a lot of days in different shore towns - Cape May, Avalon, Stone Harbor, Ocean City - porches, the beach, riding bikes, getting ice cream - with couples who let me ask too many questions. What their first date was like. Their go-to restaurants in their town. What their dog’s name is. How big their families are.

Half the session is yapping. The other half is what happens right after - the real laugh, a candid look, and the moments they forget that I’m there.

Getting to know a couple before their wedding day is one of my favorite parts of this job. By the time I’m back with a camera in six months, we’re not strangers anymore and we feel more like friends.

Hi, it’s been a few weeks - July got away from me in the best way.

There were a lot of sunset sessions on the beach this month, with couples and families both new to me and some I’ve now photographed for years, which never stops feeling like a small privilege.

The real highlight was a pack trip on horseback into the wilderness outside Jackson, WY. I slept under the stars with no tent, just the sound of bells from the horses grazing nearby. It’s quickly become one of my favorite places I’ve ever traveled.

The rest of the month was slower: dinners at Mayers with Ron & Owen, everything bagels from Crest Coffee on Tuesdays, evenings in the yard gardening, and a few days a week riding Dude and working on my canter. Trying (and mostly failing) to eat less mint chocolate chip ice cream.

Gillian and Wade’s wedding at ICONA Avalon this June was pure energy from start to finish. Their families and friends brought it all day, and the two of them were just so much fun to be around. The rain held off just long enough for us to sneak down to the beach for photos, and honestly, that’s all we needed to put a cherry on top of an already perfect day.

When I first talked to Emily and Matt on the phone, they told me they were so awkward in photos.

To be honest? So do 99% of the couples I work with.

It’s exactly who I work best with - because my style isn’t built around posing you into something you’re not. It’s built on connecting with you before the camera even comes out. And when we start, your session and wedding day is built on how you actually look when you forget I’m there.

By the end of their engagement session, they weren’t thinking about the camera anymore. You can see it!

And by their wedding day, they were completely present and totally themselves.

A June elopement in Central Park, where Jenn and Sophie traded the big day for a quiet one - just the two of them, the green of the park, and two rowboats neither of us could quite steer. They were two of the sweetest people, and you could feel it in every photo.
