Happy Mother’s Day from our home to yours. 💐

Today may be simple and quiet, but sometimes those are the moments that mean the most. Slow mornings, warm coffee, little paws walking around the house, laughter, memories, and the people we love most nearby.

Motherhood comes in so many forms — through children, fur-babies, guiding hands, supportive hearts, and the unconditional love we give every single day. Today I am simply grateful for it all.

Wishing all the amazing mothers, military moms, bonus moms, grandmothers, dog moms, and those holding memories close to their hearts a beautiful and peaceful Mother’s Day. ❤️

And to all the mothers in Heaven, who are deeply missed and forever loved — Happy Mother’s Day. 🌷✨

A beautiful Sunday day trip to the elegant spa town of Baden-Baden.
The saddest part is realizing this was actually our very first visit — but definitely not our last. Around every corner was beauty, history, and charm that simply cannot be captured fully behind the lens. In person, it was absolutely breathtaking.

Walking through the town felt like stepping into another era, from the stunning architecture to the peaceful atmosphere surrounding the historic churches and famous thermal spas that have welcomed visitors since Roman times. The beauty of places like the Kurhaus and the quiet streets lined with flowers made the entire day feel magical.

The weather could not have been more perfect. I even treated myself to an Eiskaffee and a delicious Spaghetti Eis topped with fresh strawberries before we headed home. And honestly… after seeing the famous spa culture of Baden-Baden, I already know I’ll be back for a relaxing spa day very soon.

I always find myself looking up—the sky has a way of pulling you in, like it’s quietly reminding you to pause and take it all in. But today, walk with me inside the Ettal Abbey.

Above, you’re greeted by the breathtaking dome of St. Mariä Himmelfahrt, by Johann Jakob Zeiller. It’s not just a painting—it’s a story unfolding across the ceiling, alive with movement, light, and devotion. In fact, the dome was designed to feel like a “window into eternity,” where saints gather in praise—something meant to lift your eyes, and your thoughts, heavenward.

And here’s the part that truly humbles me… this was created long before modern technology, before machinery, before anything we rely on today to make life easier. Every brushstroke, every detail, was born from pure talent, patience, and vision.

Standing beneath it, looking up, you don’t just see art—you feel the presence of a creative mind that was not only skilled, but deeply inspired. It’s a quiet reminder that some of the most extraordinary beauty in this world came from nothing more than human hands, imagination, and heart.

During our travels we made a stop at the beautiful Ettal Abbey (Kloster Ettal), a Benedictine monastery founded in 1330 by Emperor Ludwig IV. The moment you approach the grounds, the architecture immediately draws you in. The massive Baroque basilica, soft colors, and quiet courtyards create a sense of warmth and calm. It almost feels as if the walls themselves are holding centuries of stories. Standing there, you can’t help but feel the presence of the past and the generations of monks who have lived and worked within those walls.

The monks of the Benedictine Order have always believed in supporting themselves through their own labor. Even today, that tradition continues. To sustain the monastery, they run their own brewery known for Benediktiner Weissbräu, producing several varieties such as Weissbier and Dunkel. They also bottle fresh water sourced from the surrounding Alpine waterfalls and produce their own herbal liqueurs. In addition, the monastery operates a hotel and restaurant for visitors.

At one time the monks even produced their own cheeses, but today the community is smaller — around 30 monks — and their responsibilities stretch far beyond brewing and hospitality. Within the monastery walls you’ll find monks serving as teachers, electricians, plumbers, and caretakers, each helping keep the centuries-old institution running.

We wandered up to the shop first to pick up a few varieties of the local cheeses. While walking around afterward, we noticed a group of people gathered in front of a very large door. Curiosity got the best of us, so we waited to see what was happening. As it turned out, we had accidentally stumbled upon the brewery tour!

Apparently we hadn’t done our homework and didn’t realize reservations were usually made in advance. Thankfully, they were kind enough to let us join and simply pay at the end. Sometimes the best experiences happen by accident.

During the tour we heard more about the monastery’s history and even had a quick walk through their museum. And of course, the best part — tasting the beer. I can confirm it was very tasty. 🍺

If you ever find yourself near Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Kloster Ettal is absolutely worth the short trip. If you go, I highly recommend doing the liqueur and brewery tours along with visiting the monastery itself. It gives you a much fuller picture of the history, traditions, and daily life that continue there today.

And once you’re finished exploring and sampling the beer, make your way across the street to the monastery’s restaurant. Sit down, relax, and enjoy a good Bavarian meal. After a day of history, walking, and a little sipping… it tastes even better. 😊🍻

If you’ve never had the chance to travel to Germany, let me give you a little nudge: step outside that little box you’re sitting in and come explore. The world is far too beautiful to stay in one place. And if hopping on a plane isn’t in the cards right now, that’s okay—stick around with me for a while and travel through my eyes and the moments I capture through my lens.

This time our adventure took us to the breathtaking Zugspitze, the highest peak in Germany at nearly 9,700 feet. Standing on that mountain is like standing on the roof of the country. What makes it even more special is that the summit sits right on the border—one side Germany, the other Austria’s Tirol region. A single step can literally take you from one country to the other.

The mountain has quite a history, as well. The first successful summit was recorded back in 1820 by Lieutenant Josef Naus and his team. Today, instead of a rugged multi-day climb, visitors can reach the top by one of the impressive cable cars or the historic cogwheel train that has been bringing travelers up the mountain since the early 1900s. Thankfully for us!

Now let me tell you… it was a crisp minus 11°F up there. My fingers were turning red and blue faster than I could click the camera shutter. But this time we came prepared—thick jackets, gloves, and hats were absolute lifesavers. Because let me tell you, it was mighty cold standing on top of that peak with the wind whipping around us.

Eventually, we did what any sensible frozen traveler would do—we ducked inside and warmed up with a delicious cappuccino while staring out at the endless snowy Alps. Honestly, moments like that make the cold completely worth it.

So travel with me for a little while—whether it’s across oceans or just around the corner. Sometimes the best memories come from the simplest experiences… picking up fresh cheese from a local farmer, wandering through a village market, or even learning how beer is made (with a tasting at the end, of course).

Stay tuned… more little adventures are always around the corner 🙂

What can I say? German Fasching, Karneval, or Fastnacht—depending on where you are—is celebrated differently in every region, and that’s what makes it so fascinating. While the names change, they all refer to the same season of celebration leading up to Lent, rooted in centuries-old European traditions that mix pre-Christian rituals with Christian customs. Historically, this was a time to chase away winter, mock authority, and enjoy food, drink, and laughter before the quieter season of Lent began.

Karneval is the term most commonly used in western and northern Germany, especially in cities like Cologne, Düsseldorf, and Mainz. This style of celebration is known for its large, organized parades, marching bands, and strong political satire. Floats often poke fun at current events and leaders, and the crowd participation is huge. Karneval is loud, energetic, and very much about community involvement—entire cities seem to pause normal life to celebrate.

Fasching, on the other hand, is the term more often used in southern Germany, including Bavaria and Austria. While still festive, Fasching celebrations tend to feel more traditional and local. You’ll see historic costumes, regional music, and customs that vary not just by state, but by town. In many smaller communities, parades can last for hours, reflecting the pride and dedication of local clubs and families who spend months preparing.

Then there’s Fastnacht (or Fastnacht/Fasnet), which is especially common in parts of southwestern Germany and Switzerland. This version often leans heavily into ancient traditions, with hand-carved wooden masks, darker symbolism, and rituals meant to drive away winter spirits—giving it a more mystical, almost eerie feel compared to Karneval or Fasching.

I’ve seen a Fasching parade in Bavaria, but I’ve also experienced a small-town parade that lasted nearly four hours. We stayed for about two before the cold set in and dinnertime rolled around—but even then, it was clear how deeply rooted these traditions are. No matter the name, these celebrations are more than parades. They’re living history, shaped by region, culture, and generations of tradition across Germany and Europe. So take the time and either join a parade as a bystander or as part of the fun.

Who would’ve thought that after living in the Sunshine State—where the heat and humidity try to suffocate you daily—I’d actually miss being warm? Yet here I am, freezing my rear end off in actual freezing temperatures. So yes… welcome back to your Heimat, where the cold doesn’t play games and Florida me would like a word with past me.

Snowflakes softly falling from bright white, quiet skies. Before we left the house for Lilly’s very first walk in the snow, I even put on the sweater her sister got her. I had no idea what she would do — would she like the fluffy white ground? Would she even be able to walk on something so cold and unfamiliar?

Turns out, she loved it. She ran through the fields like a madwoman, pure joy in every step. She did so well that she couldn’t wait for the other 50 walks she wanted that day… lol ❄️🐾

Thank you so much for sticking around 💛 The past few months have been hectic, emotional, and a little crazy as we made the quick decision to move across the country. We’re finally settling in and finding our rhythm again.

So bear with me as I ease back in and share a few moments out of order. I will be posting a little backwards while I catch up—and honestly, I’m excited to relive some of these memories with you.

We’ll start with one of my favorites: stumbling upon alpacas at a Christmas market. Absolutely stunning animals and such a magical experience ✨

I’m officially hitting the ground running again, camera in hand, and I can’t wait to share what’s next.

When a friend reached out needing an updated LinkedIn headshot, of course, I said yes! The best part was using the beauty of Mother Nature as our backdrop. 🌿

Never be afraid to step in front of the lens — true beauty shines from the inside out. 💫
