One if the coolest things about Iowa is all the level B roads cut through the Loess Hills. Level B roads are, “enter at your own risk/ minimum maintenance roads”.

If you don’t have a jeep, truck or ATV you risk getting stuck. Especially after rain or melting snow.

I’ve always loved adventuring down level B roads where the cliffs are way over my truck. I think because they’re less traveled and not everyone can go down them.

There’s a little Danish town in Iowa that has the coolest Hans Christian Anderson sculpture garden. He was a Danish writer best known for his children’s fairy tale books.

His most popular were

Ogallala known as the “Cowboy Capital of Nebraska" and where you can find one of the best beaches in Nebraska - Lake McConaughy.
You can drive your camper / vehicle right up to the lake. But make sure you have a vehicle that can handle deep sandy beaches or you could get stuck.
This rates up there with one of my favorite beaches in the Midwest. If you know of any others post below so I can visit those too.

This troll was one of my favorites. Fjord Færgemand is located at the Museum of Danish America in Elk Horn, Iowa.

The sculpture features the towering troll rowing a 40-foot wooden boat across the prairie, symbolizing the historic migration and perseverance of Danish immigrants settling the American Midwest in the late 1800s.

The town of Elk horn has so much to see and do. It may be in a small Iowa town, but it feels very Danish. Be sure to visit the Viking house and big windmill. You can actually climb to the top.

If you love towns with lots of history and beautiful architecture. Galena Illinois is a great place to visit. Famous for its 19th-century architecture, 85% of the town is a national historic district.
There’s so much to see and do. It was once a booming lead-mining hub and the home of U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant.

One of my most surprising road trips was to maquoketa Caves State Park in Jackson County, Iowa. You wouldn’t think there would be such cool caves in the middle of nowhere Iowa. But there is. This place has the most beautiful nature trails and caves. Pics don’t capture how cool it really is. And it’s FREE!

I’ve been obsessed with finding the Dambo trolls. My last trip was to Clinton Iowa. Marvin (laying under the tree) is my favorite so far.
If you don’t know about Thomas Dambo, He’s an artist from Denmark who uses recycled material to build trolls. He has over 100 that he’s hidden all over the world.
