Family Day Trip to Isha Foundation, Bangalore!
If you told me a few years ago that I’d be sweating in near 42-degree weather in Bangalore, I wouldn't have believed you! Bangalore is supposed to be cooler than Tirupati for sure, but climate change is real. First time ever I encountered that kind of super hot weather here! 🥵🔥
Despite the scorching sun, my brother’s family and I set out for an impromptu day trip. We looked for nearby attractions and decided to hit Nandi Hills and the Isha Foundation (Sadhguru Sannidhi) in Chikkaballapura.
What a beautifully divine place! It's a replica of the famous Coimbatore center founded by Sadhguru, known for meditation, yoga, and absolute inner peace. 🧘♂️💫
✨ The Divine Highlights:
🏔️ The 112-Foot Adiyogi Statue: Absolutely beautiful and majestic against the backdrop of the hills.
🐂 The 21-Foot Nandi: Sitting in perfect, meditative stillness.
🛕 Yogeshwara Linga & The Naga Shrine: Powerful spaces filled with a deep sense of calm.
What I loved most was the peacefulness of sitting in the quiet area. Everyone truly respects the space and follows the directions given by the volunteers. Everyone was at their best! It’s amazing to see how people are understanding the value of meditation and quietness here—honestly, they are supposed to do the same in normal temples, but unfortunately, that’s rarely the case.
🍽️ Food & Survival Tips:
The campus has two restaurants serving the exact same food. Pro-tip: Just pick whichever one has less crowd! Because of the rush, they ran out of most items quickly, but we managed to get some roti and curry, and it was very tasty! (Note: It's self-service, so you order and pick up from different counters yourself).
🍦 Of course, to battle that crazy heat, my brother and I enjoyed some ice cream. There is nothing quite like a cold treat when the weather is trying to melt you! It was truly the icing on the cake. 🍨❄️
🤔 Room for Improvement?
While the vibe is undeniable, a few things are lacking (maybe Sadhguru can answer these!):
No Seating: It's a huge area, making it very tough for kids and elders. My mom was too tired to even climb the stairs to the Adiyogi because there are almost no chairs or benches to rest on. Idea: Why not install secure, foldable chairs on the walls near the stairs and paths? Elders can unfold them, rest, and fold them back up!
Meditation Seating: Sitting on the floor is hard for elders to get up from. A few foldable chairs along the back wall for those who physically can't sit on the floor would be a game-changer. After all, some yogis do tapas standing on one leg—you don't have to sit on the floor to meditate!
Foot-Burning Stones: 75% of the area is barefoot, and the stone floors get intensely hot. Even the mats laid out by the foundation burn your feet! Idea: Why not have running water paths over the mats (like the cooling feet-wash channels at Tirumala) or install retractable mist blowers that can pop into the ground at the touch of a button during huge gatherings?
Overall, a wonderful, memorable day spent with family. Go prepared for the weather, be ready to walk, and don't skip the ice cream! 🙌❤️
