Sometimes being a photographer isn't about fancy edits, or scenic shots. Sometimes it's about capturing moments, and sharing a feeling or thought with someone without saying a word.

I could not sit on the couch any longer while this world falls apart, while mothers and nurses are gunned down in the street by "law enforcement". This. Must. Stop. NOW.

Logan Utah showed up today. We won't be silent any longer. And neither should you.

Just hanging out in my backyard when this bird landed on top of my neighbor's pine tree. Was about 100 feet away, probably 50 feet high, but I could tell it was easily 18-24" tall. I'm guessing it was a Golden Eagle, but I'm not 100% sure. I was lucky enough to have my camera right by my back door to snag this shot.

Exif: Iso 200, 405mm cropped (270mm uncropped), f7.1, 1/500s

I stepped outside my comfort zone for this edit. I hadn't shot with black & white in mind, but when looking through these shots something just said, "try it." It really brought me back to my roots, learning photography in a high-school dark room, developing black and white film. I'll never forget the thrill (and terror) after taking a roll of photos, wondering if I had my settings right, not knowing until school the next day so I could develop the images.

I think this is why I love this image so much. Back when you couldn't review your images after every shot, you just had to trust the process and try and capture the moment. I think this image is just that; a moment in between movements.

The river was cool, the current was slow but insistent, and it carried away with it the stress of the previous day. These moments are what we all live for. Cherish them.

I had a great time taking some portraits for my friends Anna and Cade. As I'm relatively new to portrait photography, I'm grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow, and do something for my friends at the same time.

These are two of my favorite shots from their session. I love the way the lighting worked out at this location, not having worked with natural backlit scenes before. I hadn't pre-shot or scouted locations before this, but I did this time and it made things so much smoother. That's going to be a part of my process from now on.

I also found a website that will show you where the shade will be at a given date/time, which helped me narrow down my location possibilities. If you're curious its https://shademap.app/

If you're a Cache Valley local and are interested in some photos, send me a message here or an email!
