A small change I’m making moving forward.
Like many photographers, I’ve been paying closer attention to the conversation surrounding AI and the ways photographs of children can potentially be misused once they’re placed on the public internet.
While I love sharing the beautiful moments I’m trusted to photograph, the reality of what technology is capable of today has made me rethink how much of a child’s identity I need to put online.
Going forward, I’ll be more intentional about the images I share publicly of children. Rather than routinely sharing identifiable, front-facing images, I’ll be choosing photographs that preserve a child’s privacy while still allowing me to showcase the beauty and emotion of my work. I have always caputred llittle details, candid moments, images from behind, movement, connection, and photographs where a child isn't easily identifiable. So this won't be a difficult transition.
This doesn't mean I’m going to stop photographing or celebrating children. Quite the opposite. It simply means I’m choosing to be a little more protective of the children I’m entrusted with.
The internet and technology are changing quickly, and I believe we have a responsibility as photographers to think about how the images we put into the world could be used. Not just today, but years from now.
So, you'll probably notice a little shift in what I share here.
The memories will still be beautiful. They just may look slightly different on my feed.
My smallest love is now 9 months. I can't believe it.
