1 year ago today an F4 tornado carved a path of destruction from Somerset to London. 19 lives were lost that night from a thunderstorm that developed in southwest Missouri some 450 miles away and traveled eastward through the evening producing tornadoes along the way. At 11:20 PM the first tornado warning was issued for Somerset as the storm produced yet another tornado. This tornado grew in strength and size as it crossed through Daniel Boone National Forest then had a direct hit with Sunshine Hills Subdivision on the southwest side of London then crossed I-75 to the London Corbin Airport causing extensive damage then hit the Maximus building, crossed US 25 and leveled a portion of forest at Levi Jackson State Park, the Laurel County Fairgrounds, then lifted. 1 year later, the path is still evident through much of the area.
