As a cosplayer I found it really frustrating being asked to pose for a photo, being flattered, posing...and then never seeing that photo online anywhere. I don't know how many h
ours I've spent searching Tumblr, DeviantArt, Facebook, and Instagram, among others, and all to no avail. I got so sick of this that I decided to get into photography so that others wouldn't have to feel this frustration. I know as cosplayers you spend so much time, money and effort on your cosplay, your props, your wigs and your makeup, and it's just upsetting and discouraging when you're either overlooked, or else you do get your photo taken and can't find it. I'm also disabled, and sadly, I've noticed a trend that too many disabled cosplayers are overlooked. I'm sure they worked just as hard to achieve a certain look for their character, so why should they not get their photo taken as well? I know I can't get to everyone when I'm at a cosplay gathering or convention, but I try my very best. I also try my best to take photos of people of color, the disabled, and others who, for whatever reason, are often overlooked because that shouldn't happen, and it angers me that it does. I also do not charge because I'm doing this for fun, and to help out other cosplayers. Yes I will update my camera, but when I'm able to. If a cosplayer wishes to tip me for my services, then I'll gladly accept it, but otherwise I know they may already be strapped for cash, and are currently wearing their money on their head or body (wig and/or cosplay) or else carrying it in their hand (prop). I also accept snacks and drinks in exchange for shoots, but again not necessary, I'm just happy to get someone photos that they can then show off on their social media accounts. Anything anyone happens to give me, if/when they're able I consider a bonus, and I am so grateful for it. Because I am disabled I do not work so I'm pretty much open anytime someone wants/needs me for a shoot in the Sacramento, or surrounding areas, or the San Francisco Bay Area in California. The only thing I ask is I'd need transportation to and from the shoot site as I don't drive due to health reasons.
